No of course it isn't 'solely down to paper traders'. Mined supply is falling - there has been big silver deficits since 2021. Demand is soaring both industrially and from physical investors. The Shanghai price is dollars higher than the suppressed Western price which further sucks silver out and to the East. The net result is the supply does not equal demand so the price is getting pushed up; and as the price gets pushed up the shorts have to start closing which compounds the rise.

    Sounds logical, thankyou.

Paper traders make money both ways.

I find it hard to believe that the bull run is solely down to paper traders. There is something else at work here and if someone was to say state actor(s) I would not necessarily disbelieve them. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just wondering.

  3. Whilst it is rather gratifying seeing the price of silver so high, especially when I can remember buying silver at £12-ish an ounce VAT free from Estonia, the thing I am wondering is why. After spending so much time in the doldrums, why has the price shot up so much in such a relatively short period of time?

No other metal on earth can match ❤️Silver❤️ in these properties:

--- Silver conducts heat better than any other element.
--- Silver conducts electricity better than any other element.
--- Silver is the most reflective metal on earth.
--- Silver has antimicrobial properties, so it kills bacteria quickly, this is why they used to gift silver spoons to babies (to keep their teeth healthy). Copper kills bacteria too but at much slower speed than Silver.
--- Silver tarnish and produce beautiful colorful rainbow patina (which no other metal can match).

P.S. During ancient times, silver was more valuable than gold primarily because it was more difficult to find in its natural state as well as to extract from its ores.

    I LOVE ❤️SILVER❤️.....

Silver is only the second best conductor of heat, the best conductor of heat is, surprisingly enough, diamond. Due to it being compressed carbon I suppose.

Where they going to sell it? If they managed to the first you would know is that it had been done, no market dip, probably not know who got it, but probably china.

Dubai or Shanghai as London and New York are closed to Ivan at this time. Gordon Brown sold half our reserves and the price dipped, although he did tell everyone before the event.

  6. Taking a bit of a contrarian position, if Russia starts to unload some of its gold reserves, as its sovereign wealth fund has been seized by the west, this could depress the price somewhat, perhaps, maybe. Not sure what effect a few tons of bullion would do to the price, but as they say, buy the dips.

Hi Airhead, I think the quantity I'm looking to acquire, would mean I'd have to go through a dealer I suppose, such as Baird or Bullion by Post....say 30 sovereigns brings the premium down to around 5.5%. Is that worth it in your opinion?

Seems quite good although trawling though as many dealers as you can sometimes show up good deals. The best place to buy Sovereigns is right here on the forum, although you would need to upgrade your membership to see listings as soon as they are posted.

I was considering silver in the context of the possible hyper-inflation of the dollar...

In that case forget Silver and buy gold. Either 1oz Britannias, low margin, or bullion Sovereigns, very liquid.

  9. There is a dealer directory section of the forum. Living in Essex, the cheapest option would be Bairds for Kilo bars, works out at £19.38 an ounce but you have to add vat, unless you opt for storage.

The RM know we all will be queuing up to buy every single 2022 Sovereign we can afford to buy!

With all the hype and venality that accompanies RM releases I would prefer to save my money and buy a young head Victoria shield back. The quality of modern sovereigns are not the same as earlier ones IMO.
