Something I'm going to try and do more often when posting photos on here is to include something common for size comparison so I included a 2p.
Precious metal photos always seem bigger than they actually are in real life to me. It's not a complaint just something I've noticed. My brain can't work it out ha.

Today in a charity shop I found some 50% silver coins so I bought a few. Two florins (two shilling coin) and two shillings.
I bought the book from the same shop. It's an anthology of Rudyard Kipling's poems. Three of the coins are from within Kipling's lifetime (1921- the fourth coin is from 1944- Kipling lived from 1865-1936). I wonder if he had coins like them jingling in his pocket when wrote the poem "Cold Iron":
GOLD is for the mistress - silver for the maid" -
Copper for the craftsman cunning at his trade! " 
" Good! " said the Baron, sitting in his hall,
But Iron - Cold Iron - is master of them all."
 

Over $10 face in 90% but look at that barber!

Had a few .500 half crowns and a .925 half crown in today. I like these when they are only a couple of quid 😀

One of my favourite coins (that I don't own) is the 1804 5 shilling Bank of England token.  It has a legend on one side saying Five Shillings  :  Dollar.  Picture borrowed from Chards.

My mother used to call the half-crown a half- Dollar. That's when you used to get 4 Dollars to the £1.

As Seasider said, everyone thought they were being robbed as the shops "rounded up" which resulted in inflation  and it really did confuse people.... LSD (Libra, solidus, denarius) had basically been around since the Romans....    Lets hope we never "Eurolies"  our currency...........
