I have repatriated this 15th century treasure back to the UK from a superb US seller. The photos don’t do it any justice, its absolutely stunning and I’m very pleased!
For those interested, it is an Edward IV Gold Ryal or also called Rose Noble only minted between 1464 and 1470 and the year in that period identifiable by the mint mark in the legend, which on mine is a little difficult to ID but its a Long Cross Fitchée, if in any doubt (see the close up) there were no other crosses used in the period they were minted. This mark puts it as minted between 1469-1470, making it even rarer, only just before Henry VI was restored to the throne. On edwards second reign the mint started producing Angles which are entirely different design. The coin was minted in London, identifiable as no letter in the waves beneath the rose / kings vessel.
7.61grams of gold and approximately 35mm in diameter.
Side note: The coin was also imitated on the continent in the mint of Gorinchem for around 100yrs after this date (and also thought during Edwards exile in Belgium), these are often referred to as a “Flemish Ryal”.  Identifiable if put alongside each an original, one difference being the continental copy is often slightly larger in diameter.
NB, if anyone is wondering what the lump of dirty metal is in some of the photos, its an original brass coin weight for the Ryal that I was able to pick up from someone that had found it in the Thames mud. It was only a few pounds but I though makes a nice collection.
hope you like as much as me 😁

One baby step at a time, but we're getting there slowly but steadily. Glad with the Dutch gold 10 Guilders from 1932 I've received today, especially knowing I bought it slightly under spot. 😂

I am happy I bought 8 oz £1138 in late December 2019. I am even more happy I switch my entire portfolio in India from Nifty 50 to Money market Bonds in the middle January, stock markets sea of red Dow 800 point down and US Markets 3 and half hours before opening. Will we see 1,000 point drop in day for the Dow?.....

The VIX volatility index 30% higher.

    NASDAQ bubble has finally popped.

I think it all depends on your time horizon and your beliefs. I can certainly see the appeal of using a service like Bullion Vault the spreads between buying and selling is competitive and if you bought and had to sell in a short time frame (provided spot price did not move) then in theory you only stand lose 0.02% (Gold London £) and it is impossible to achieve this spread in physical Gold and practicality and flexibility to buy and sell 24 hours day seven days a week without having pay postage costs or a need to find a buyer/seller.

I believe in the last 10+ years this probably one of the most efficient ways to buy Gold but the economic, political environment that we have recently entered has changed. HSBC are the custodians GLD and the majority of their profits are derived from Hong Kong the most overvalued housing market on earth, Deutsche Bank derivatives exposure, corona virus black swan event and central banks around the world attempted trying to keep stock markets at all time highs by pumping liquidity, federal reserve started QE4, we have no idea over last five decades how much gold leased out but still on the balance sheets central banks as reserves. Nobody can predict in the interconnected financial/global economy that we live in today if one domino falls what implications it will have on others.
If your objective is to be completely out of the system, have zero third party risk and lock in purchasing power indefinitely then holding physical gold is the way to go.
Plus holding physical Gold is good enough for these fine fellows then good enough for me.

Received these Silver & Gold Libertads and two very nice display boxes from @PolarPanda today- with thanks for the speedy delivery and bomb proof packaging.
The 97 & 98 key date Silver 1oz Libertads leaves me tantalisingly close to the 1982 through 2019 Bu date run- just the 2007 to source.
The 2017 Bu Gold Libertads, leave me very close to sourcing almost one of everything the Banco de México produced in 2017- just 3 more items to find.  The 2017 1/4 Oz Bu is one of a tiny 500 mintage.

I’ll have to be on the lookout for more boxes 🙄
