Well the Sovereign is in a totally different league from any of these modern coin ranges.
The Sovereign is a tiny 7.98gm coin but it continues a centuries old tradition, it is pretty much unrivalled by any other coin today, and St. George and the Dragon is its quintessential representation.
The modern coin ranges, both by the Royal Mint and every other Mint, are just a way to sell precious metals in new and interesting ways. Sometimes they are nice, sometimes they start to become classics of our age, and sometimes they are gimmicky.
But none of them have the pedigree that the Sovereign does.
The Sovereign doesn’t need to be made relevant. It’s appeal is in its timelessness.
Imo! 🙂

I agree that 0% is the simplest approach, but in reality it makes no difference to what I’m willing to pay. If a 6, 10, 18% commission applies, then I will bid less accordingly.
The issue currently is that many starting prices are 10-15% above what the market is willing to pay, so 0% is irrelevant. I understand that this is driven by seller’s expectations, but they seem to expect the market from 3-4 years ago and not the current one.

jultorsk reacted to Leonmarsh in Tonight torn soft tissue special Newfoundland gold $2 dollars 1881 rare and beautiful £490 posted
After much deliberation and observation. The forum it seems as though sovereigns are the way to go easier to buy and liquidate when necessary
So here for sale is a belting and very rare 1881 newfoundland $2 dollar gold coin
Price £490 posted
Would exchange for a graded young head shieldback Sovereign or ungraded
or other sovereigns considered if the deal is right nothing modern i.e gillicks
This is a real rarity for someone
Would also possibly exchange my au55 Sydney mint sov if there was interest in a larger exchange deal

Exactly this.
Several examples recently where I would have bid on Sovereigns or 1/4 Oz gold if the starting price had been £20/£30 lower.

And to think I was so close to going the full month without buying any gold...I nearly had some walking around money, I even had ambitions to possibly have my freezer fixed.
Oh well, priorities! Cheap soverigns take precedence over food hygiene

jultorsk reacted to dicker in Sovereigns of the British Empire and 1965 Price Guide
I bought “Sovereigns of the British Empire” by JJ Cullimore Allen. Hard to find in nice condition with the insert that accompanied it in 1965, plus dust jacket in good condition.
I thought it might be interesting to share the Sovereign Price guide from 1965.
