Look up the book "war is a racket" by most decorated of his time Major General Smedley Butler (July 30, 1881 – June 21, 1940), nicknamed the Maverick Marine, was a senior United States Marine Corps officer. During his 34-year career, he fought in the Philippine–American War, the Boxer Rebellion, the Mexican Revolution, and World War I.

At the time of his death, Butler was the most decorated Marine in U.S. history.
By the end of his career, Butler had received sixteen medals, including five for heroism; he is the only Marine to be awarded the Brevet Medal as well as two Medals of Honor, all for separate actions.

From his experiences below are some of his conclusions on life, society and world geopolitics

" I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.
A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.
WAR is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives. "
Add these to reading " confessions of an economic hitman" by ex IMF/world bank gopher John Perkins in more recent times and you'll see nothing has really changed

    Background/Reason for Sale
I'm back again so soon with another sale!  Same items as listed last weekend, but I have tweaked and lowered prices on all items
I purchased two large five sovereigns here earlier in the week on the forum and looking to raise some cash towards them from smaller gold pieces I have.
I am not a full time dealer or a serial trader/flipper and I don't list items for sale here every week. I normally may only put a sale up here once or twice a year -  My previous sales of mine have always been popular
I try to price sensibly & price stuff to make sales - cheaper than dealers for sure.  Hopefully I'm not wildly out.  If you want to buy a few pieces, I can happily make a deal we are both happy with
    TERMS & CONDITIONS
Condition: Graded coins - are graded impartially by NGC or PCGS are clearly stated.  Slab could/may have surface handling marks on the plastic
Source: I have purchased all my gold from leading UK bullion dealers (Atkinsons, HGM, ATS, Baird), auction houses (coincabinet/COR), and some items from fellow members on this forum.
Reputation & Trust: As a long-time member here on the forum for many years, with 100+ 100% positive feedback, both as a buyer/stacker and seller, I can assure you of my reliability. I've been here since year dot and have completed dozens of deals, including face-to-face meetings, earning me a held-in-high-regard reputation. Furthermore, I have been trading on eBay since 1999 with over 250,000+ different sales through my various businesses. Rest assured that all payments, orders, and messages will be personally handled by myself.
    Item Location: United Kingdom (UK)
Shipping: Since it involves the sale of "GOLD," delivery is by Special Delivery.
This service by Royal Mail offers tracking, insurance, and next working day delivery before 1 pm.
Please add +£7.15 to the listed price for this option.
Your order will be dispatched in a secure, tamper-evident, and nondescript parcel.
Shipping destinations: I will ONLY ship within the UK; unfortunately, there is no overseas postage available.
Payment Terms: Payments can be made via UK bank transfer ONLY (no PayPal/crypto or swap/trades). I will provide my bank details via private message.
How do I buy?: To make a purchase, either drop me a private message or leave a comment below, and I will contact you directly.
Dispatch Time: No gold is stored at home.  Images were taken in safe deposit viewing room earlier today.  All gold is stored in a safe deposit box located approximately 45 minutes away. I always aim to dispatch orders ASAP within 1 working day, but on some occasions, it may take an extra day to retrieve the item from the safe deposit box due to my work/family commitments. I will be visiting Friday, Saturday and Sunday to pick up and process orders

I am not looking to sell everything, once i have raised £££ what i need to raise for my purchase, listing will be closed.  Listing will be officially closed off Sunday evening
Many thanks for looking   PM me if you've any questions or queries

Not the first time this has happened and it had consequences for markets. Just about every major index is down today .... except for gold and a few cryptos. Logic suggests safe-haven assets like gold should prosper as markets tighten but do the CRAs (Credit Reference Agencies) really matter?
The CRAs were major players in the GFC of 07/08. CRAs have zero legal authority or accountability. They can rate Lehman Brothers as AAA and a strong buy seconds before it implodes and face no consequences. They can engage in rampant ratings manipulations and face no criminal charges. The CRAs get paid by the market makers - e.g. Goldman Sachs has $50 billion of MBSs and CDOs that need graded, do they use Moody's, Fitch, S&P?
"AAA you want, these are more like BBB!". Not a problem for Goldman and the others, they simply inform the CRA they will take their business elsewhere if they don't get the ratings they want. When the main market makers in this field were part of a closed-loop cartel (InterContinentalExchange, ICE), if you turned your back on one you turned your back on them all. Therefore the CRAs gave the ICE cartel whatever ratings they asked for. I'm sure the same still applies today. The CRAs are not independent.
So when people call this judgement by Fitch: "Absurd", "Arbitrary", "Of little consequence", "Out of date", "Strange" or "Irrelevant", they might just have a point
Under MMT (Modern Monetary Theory) the USA can't default. As has been said countless times over the years, "The ratings reflect not the USA's ability to pay but rather the USA's willingness to pay". The same sentiment applies to the debt ceiling. It's political in nature rather than economic. They can do whatever they want but tend to put on a show for whomever they believe is impressed by these antics. Usually it's fully orchestrated to allow insider money managers to profit from short-term price action

    Hi there
i have recently come across a Gothic Crown I put away some time ago. I’ve been having a spring clean, moving on those pieces I don’t collect, so I can focus just on my favoured collections.
FYI, It was graded as PF70 with a black mark on the edge (at the time of grading). Ive attached NGC images from when it was graded, which are the first two below. The mark is at 2 o clock when looking at the reverse, 10 o clock on the obverse.
Other than that mark on the edge the piece is top condition.
I’ve also added images of mark in close up for full disclosure and although I don’t think it needs saying ….. it is sold as seen.
i note the cheapest PF70 gothic crown on eBay is £400. I’m offering it at £200 posted. It comes with its box & coa.

    cheers

The un-pressed blank would be softer than the pressed coin. During the pressing of the first coin it becomes work hardened. This is in part why they are annealed after pressing. Also the newer coins have a lot less detail on them than older coins, so it's not a great amount of detail to transfer to the softer blank. As for the flipping of the first pressed coin this is possible if it catches on exiting the press recess as the machine tries to eject the coin. It is such an un-likely event but it is possible. Hence the excitement when such a rare occurrence produces a rare coin as this. These brockage coins are very sought after by error coin experts and collectors.

The 10 year Japanese government bond is suddenly spiking up! They said they would print and buy as much as necessary to keep it below 0.5 but it’s now over 0.6 so something has gone very wrong. This could be a sign that the imminent debt market implosion might be about to begin (which would mean gold to the moon). Is it popcorn time yet?
