Something a little special. Massive thanks to St Bees Silver for working with me to create these new additions. Cant wait for the next pieces later in the year. The set is coming together nicely

I am really hating the premium and spot values at the moment. Getting harder to source deals , haven’t bought much lately to add to the stack. When these Mexican beauties rolled in had to grab them though.

I finally received my Austrian coin.   It's interesting that although it's issued from the same country at that time,  even the edge is completely different.
Both of them weren't intended for internal circulation because  Austro-Hungarian empire  was at the silver standard before 1892 and  the international price of silver was rapidly declining after 1873 so it was impossible to use gold due to Gresham's Law.    They were probably used as a trade coinage against LMU countries.

This catalogue unexpectedly arrived today - some great coins, most of which are way beyond my budget.
Any one have any experience with them?

Gorgeous 2x50 Belarussian roubles commemorating the wildlife in Braslaw Lakes National Park (Herring Gull) and Narochansky National Park (Mute Swan).
Both are .900 7.2g fine gold and minted by the Mint of Poland in 2006 for the National Bank of Belarus. Not yet the easiest to find but I was able to pick these up at a good price! There are several more in the set that I hope to come across one day

OK - so technically not something I received today, but I have just been to my PO Box for the first time in months and was very surprised to find this there:

I have been after one of these for ages after seeing so many on here, there is plenty around in good condition due to the high mintages I think, but I always seemed to get outbid, now officially the largest coin in my stack (until I get one of my Christmas presents that is).
This style of Mexican 1 Peso coin came out in 1920, millions were minted most years until 1945, all these coins were struck from .720 silver, one thing I really like is the fact that the purity is on the coin itself much like a modern bullion coin.
Around the sides of the coin is the writing INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD (Independence and liberty), I can see now why so many collectors love these and the later Libertads, its one of my favourites now.
Production for this coin was 43,920,000 in 1933 alone.

Tried to show some of the lustre on this coin, which this has lots.

Really pleased with two new coins that arrived today from members of this forum - my new 1/2oz Kruger and 1/4oz Britannia. Brings my modest proof gold collection now to 5 coins!

    Received these beauties today:
a 1995 Russian .900 15.55g fine gold 100 rubles commemorating Alexander Nevsky (so cool to think of this coin as a store of value during the Russian economic upheavals of the 1990s)

a 1989 Portuguese .917 edit: 22g fine gold 100 escudos commemorating the discovery of the Azores (Portugal issued a series of precious metal commemorative coins around this time which are quite in demand as collectors items)

    My first Belgian 5 franc
A pretty nasty chap but a lovely coin nevertheless.
These large European silvers have to be the most addictive coins to start collecting- such nice size and high silver purity and can be picked up just over spot!

Austria made these circulating commemorative silver coins from 1928 to 1938 when the Third Reich took over Austria and replaced their currency with the German Reichsmark, most were handed in to be melted down so there must be far less than the small amounts that were minted each year, all these coins were minted from .640 silver, and a new design was released each year and for one year only.
The coins are all a good size, slightly bigger and heavier than a UK 50p, the circular shield design was used until 1934 when replaced by the two headed eagle, the circular shield was re-instated after the war.

From left to right the coins are,
    1931 release
    2 Schillings
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the musical writer and composer who died young at 31, and celebrates 175 years since his birth.
    Production of 500,000

    1933 release
    2 Schillings
This one features Catholic priest and politician Dr Ignaz Seipal, and his death in late 1932 at the age of 56 when assassinated by a socialist, the coin was not released until early 1933 though.
Production of 400,000,  this is one of the rarer and more valuable of the coins.

    1936 release
    2 Schillings
This coin celebrates the 200 year anniversary of the death of Prince Eugen of Savoy, who was a French Prince who moved to Austria when his mother did something naughty, he transferred his loyalty to the holy roman empire and became a field marshal, he took part in many battles his most well known was the defeat of the Ottomans in 1687.
    Production of 500,000

Sitting nicely with the others, just the 1932, 1934 and 1935 to get now in the era I collect.
