MickB got a reaction from Griffo in buying coins from europe using credit card and has to be paid in euro
I transferred 100 Euros to top up my Croatian Kuna's and they charged me a small fee. Saves paying the exchange rate at the till, which usually is higher.

Picked these up on a market stall in town this morning and I especially like the 1902 coronation medal. Hadn't seen one before until today.

A couple of things - a little macro lens for my phone, and a 1963 Gillick sovereign. Diddling the curves a little in Photoshop brings up the detail nicely and takes off the worst of the glare. The obverse looks nice in person - I guess this might grade EF or maybe AU. The pics themselves are quite high res - click on them to see detail
Obverse is in good nick with nice lustre but a few scratches visible at magnification.
Reverse has a few dings that make the horse look like it's taking a shίt.

Two more fantastic additions to my growing predecimal coin collection arrived today.
Victoria 1849 "Godless" florin from 1849. A highly controversial coin in its time due to the omission of the otherwise omnipresent "dei gratia" or d.g. The design hence lasted only one year.
I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a gothic crown so a gothic florin will have to hold its seat
And my first proof predecimal coin, a 1902 halfcrown with beautiful colourful tones.
Always an underwhelming portrait imo but the detail on the proof does bring out its quality.

Thanks to @arphethean for this beauty, a pleasure to deal with you. My first slabbed 5 OZ. If I think about all the OMP, coming from the mint, i can see the benefits of a coffin.

MickB reacted to pricha in Do you stack historical silver coins?
I enjoy stacking British pre 1920 silver as opposed to collecting as in putting them in space consuming folders and boxes etc. I like the coins in fair condition and avoid lots sold as scrap. Individually prices have held well and I wouldn't want to sell everything at scrap weight of .925 which most dealers would offer I think. I would definitely sell each coin separately if needed .
