I didn't touch this series as it's not my cup of tea really. Your points are valid, i just felt there was a possibility the smaller run could make it more appealing, I didn't mean to give the impression I thought they would be anything special value wise.

In my view - definitely not good for the collector, the series as a whole probably not good for the investor, but I do think some of the coins that they actually released will do reasonably well.
Personally (and I don't have any or want any), I suspect there will always be a market for the Henry VIII coin as he was an iconic monarch, and I think the Charles I and James I designs will be sought after by coin collectors because it's very hard to find a decent example of any similar (hammered) coins in period.
I don't think that the coins for any of the monarchs who reigned from 1660 (Charles II onwards) will do as well, because a coin collector can buy a decent original, milled, silver or even gold coin from then onwards reasonably easily and for not too silly a price.  This was the main reason I didn't partake in this series - I would rather have an original in-period coin with its own circulated history 🙂

I said this a while ago that I think its been quietly cancelled. That said I couldn't believe It when I got the email saying they are releasing the bullion Bond of the '70s as they are so far behind with those releases.
I hope they learn their lesson from this and maybe stick to smaller, shorter series.
Sadly I think the lesson will be taken as 'let's just stick to releasing lots of harry potter and star wars coins'

The lighting is really c**p at the place where I have my deposit box and I hadn't got my coronation set back from grading yet.

Modest by some standards here but not bad for about 2 and a half years. I do love my queens beast collection as that was a chore to collect without massively overspending.
Not too far away from a kilo, I would be there by now but my recent forays in to proof have impacted on 'weight' as a priority.

3 grand for a bullion coin is big money but if there's a modern coin that would justify it then its this! A real stunner and I hope this sells for what you are asking as it would be a great market indicator....and I would feel much better about what I spent on my qb collection!

I think they need to stop with the big series, they can't seem to commit to them and when's potential buyers lose faith that they will complete them we will never start them. I really fancied the 007 set so it's a real shame, I've no interest in losing my shirt buying the proofs so that's even an option.
Maybe focus on 4 coin collections for now, if it catches do a part 2 like they are doing with the harry potter and star wars sets. I think if they had done gold bullion 50p versions of them it would have been a winner.

Yeah four coin collections is a good shout. Heard about the Royal Mint stopping to produce overseas currency at the end of the year from a few places now, hopefully that will give them more time to focus on UK stuff 😊. Even in non precious metals some coins globally cost more in materials than they represent denominationally so it may be something to do with that!
With their new focus on recycling gold, it would be great to see a gold coin series related to this process, something about their vision for the mint moving forwards. I prefer that sort of thing to easy pop culture wins 😊. I like all the Star Wars stuff but refuse to buy it, or proofs as you said!

Over the last 4 or 5 months I've primarily been buying proofs as I felt they represented better value, they are not going up at all really so with spot where it has been I've felt it makes more sense.

Proof get more affordable as spot rises. The good thing is when it does go down again, proof will not drop as much. Now must be one of the best time to buy graded coins. Only three weeks ago managed to get a 1981 Sovereign PF69 for less than £400 posted.
My best buy still has to be my 50 Pesos for £860 in 2014 and 1887 5 Sov in 2012 for £1250.

I'm just thinking, looking at the six month gold chart, we are +25% up for the sake of super simple maths
Those of us here with PF70 gold in plastic coffins
If you were holding a £1000 coin six months ago, is it right it is worth to £1250 ?
or is the price about the same ??
A lot of our gold proof pieces we are still not close to break even at  ie buying a new 1oz gold proof from RM is still £2770
With this +25% increase to spot for common gold/circulated sovereigns, could this be a good time to pick up now under valued PF70s ?
Sorry if this is a bit rambling and without focus but hopefully see my point ?
    Any opinions ??
