British Monarchs Series - They Couldn’t, Could They?

Recommended Posts

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Oh no way they will end this series. I suspect it is among the top 5 ranges in terms of popularity.

And the best monarchs are yet to come.

What I wish they would do is decide to introduce Edward VIII. Now that would blow this series up something good. I bet the golds would be swiped in a matter of minutes.

If they cancel the series I will be throwing my toys out the pram and will be demanding my money back for every single coin purchased so far.

This range was always going to be a massive commitment for collectors with it being 26 coins or so over 5 years.

I was speaking with a friend at the time of the launch and saying what will the last 1oz gold cost in 2026? 3.5-4k?

I do like some of the coins in the range, some generic and a bit boring, the Victoria should do okay as well as the last one in the range the QEII.

Apparently, not only did they miss the January release, but the March release has not been included in the forward plan.

Sauce?

Discussion in another forum involving somebody from Coin Connection, who’d heard this from their supplier (i.e. the Mint).

Yes, I’ll be having a strop too.

Can’t see a cancelation. I could stomach a reduction perhaps … but i feel we’ve already had many of the boring coins (George 1st I’m looking at you ). K Edward VII was awesome. So will all the 20th C monarchs including Victoria.

The words used were ‘the continuation of the series is in doubt’.

Huge if true

Poor old George I... although I have to say, having once collected early milled coinage, the George I designs were always the ones I was less enthusiastic about.

Ooh no, I really like the George II young head coins, they were my favourite alongside the Charles II coins. The old head wasn't so great though.

Honestly I’d have thought the Tudor Beasts a better candidate for scrapping considering the best monarchs are yet to come in the BM series whereas the TB series seems to be going from bad to worse. Imo.

Agreed.

The City coin doesn’t seem to have appeared this year either.

Oh yes. Forgot about that range… though I do recall sharing a Gazette Proclamation here recently (but not sure now if it’s for a city view coin that’s already been released now).

I just got a reply from my account manager - they (the AM's) have no information or dates for the next release in the Monarchs.

Not looking good.

Yes, that mirrors what people had said in the other discussion I was part of.

I think they'll receive severe flak (not that they'll be overly concerned), unlike anything in recent times, if they do decide to go down this road.
