attached photograph shows a change machine where full or half sovereigns could be entered to receive 20 or 10 shillings. Apparently they were used in large shops; though I don't know how the  Sovereigns would have been verified for fakes. 

why there is so little silver around at this time of year. Some silver is made into silver fulminate. This is a highly volatile explosive, just dropping a feather on it can cause it to explode. It is also what makes the crack in a Christmas cracker. So when you pull that cracker tomorrow, "bang" goes a piece of silver.

I'm not looking to sell.  I just see the various forces at work and marvel at how low silver is currently priced.  Demand is up, production is down, supply is draining.  At some point, current market price discovery is going to find out.  Maybe in 2024.  Maybe not.

Hi all, my resolutions are keep floating around the canals and enjoy early retirement more exploring new canals and wonderful places this country has to offer.
Keep enjoying my stacking hobby hopefully pick up the last cpl of dates for the 1oz gold brit run I am not doing. 😆 and hopefully add some more nice silver for the treasure chest.
And finally getting to know a few of you chaps and chapesses a little better.

I want to become a better person. I am going to take the cotton wool out of my ears and stuff it into my mouth, for a refreshing change.
Need to listen more and speak less.
My brain needs a training course about control and balance. 
My body needs to be looked after in a better way than I have done in the past.
Would also like to learn how to Love my wife more, now that we have been together for 52 years, England and Scotland in beautiful harmony together. Bliss.

Just two companies trying to make a profit. Same principle as a bottle of water. They are not all priced the same but the product is. So a company that produces each bar or coin need to pay their employees, running costs, transportation cost, ect. 
This is why premiums on silver coins are high as a percentage but low on cost and with gold it's low on a percentage but high in cost yet the journey each coin has to make from being mined to Being sold is pretty much the same.
