    Good move.
An ounce of bullion gold is an ounce of gold regardless of whether Liz or Chas is on it.
The longer you keep it the more chance it will rise in value.

Rotary tool (Dremel being the brand everyone knows) with a cutting disc attachment. Cut in straight lines as close as you are comfortable to the coin. Once you've cut the crusts off so to speak prise the plastic apart. You could do this with a regular sized grinder but it could go awry.
Obviously securing the slab in a vice/clamp will make this easier, a must if using a full size grinder, but with a small rotary tool a gloved hand is enough.
If you don't have a rotary tool they are a useful thing to have around, find an excuse to buy one 🤣
Honestly though if you're selling them I'd leave them alone but price them as you would an unslabbed coin 🌞

I do think there is room for both ends of the market, without a doubt we have all benefited with the new blood coining into the market that RM pull in with the new commemoratives.

The new stuff dragged me into the market, and you learn to appreciate the more numismatic sovereigns as you progress and refine your taste.

Isn't the current fad for QEII Gillicks, a modern variant on the Shield craze? I can't see why, personally. Surely, premiums over spot come with relative scarcity of a"type", which may be linked to design, but more probably mintages, so my thinking is that the occasional special issue sovereigns will justify their premiums over time. KCII Memorials, anyone?

Perception can have a big influence on market values - this is how bubble markets form.  The market value can be as much a function of perception as it is of actual scarcity.
My original point is that shields aren't as scarce as folks make them out to be - a significant part of the value is driven by perception.  Same with Gillicks - they had quite substantial mintages and were never circulated.  With Elizabeth dying there might be some transient demand, but there were something like 50 million Gillicks produced, and none withdrawn from circulation as they were never circulated as currency in the first place.  Some special reverses such as the 2002 or 2012 have retained a bit of premium over bullion, and smaller mintage years of Gillicks (1957 and 1959) command a slightly higher price.  Are they particularly scarce?   Not really, just perceived as such.

Divmad got a reaction from Zhorro in 2023 Coronation Silver coins - help needed
I've just been going through various pages on Google about the next Coronation coin offerings, and getting totally confused. It seems like every man, or island, and his dog will be using some sort of "Buckingham Palace approved" coin.
But which is the main one to collect, the one with lasting appeal to the widest audience?
I can't see any reference yet in the Royal Mint site to a £5 silver crown coin, but surely this should be the mainstay of the forthcoming event from a coin collectors point of view?

Divmad reacted to MBTPSilver in When is the 2023 Sovereign revealed/issued?
In normal years the 2023 Sovereign would have been released a few months ago, typically the first/second week of January.
Due to the 2022 Memorial Sovereign being released in that spot, this year it's late, so no one knows for sure when the 2023 Sov will be out. It will almost certainly be around the coronation though, so I'd say anytime in the next 4 - 6 weeks we'll hear something.

I sold a lot of silver during the last peak - i was advertising generic 1oz rounds on Ebay at £39 in the 'buy it now' format (previously having bought ASE, Brits etc at £5-£6 each)..
(I was also buying sovereigns at £60, but that's another story)
They were selling within seconds of me listing them - i don't think there will be a problem in shifting silver if the price increases. Most people see a bandwagon and are more than willing to shell out cash to jump on it.

In terms of iconic designs I'm not sure, but very important numismatically are the coins of the Latin Monetary Union, and they would make an excellent collection goal

In terms of a design really capturing the character of a historic era, these are very striking. Pun intended? Sure, why not.

Obviously a world apart from the grace and majesty of that florin, but interesting to see the different facets and periods of a continent's history. Personally I find many coins pre 1900 very focused on Royal portraits and arms, of which I can only appreciate so many before becoming a bit bored. To me, their stiff adherence to tradition mean not many designs stand out as being interesting or characterful. That changes post WWI

There are many important coins in european history, but if you want an iconic one, my vote is going to spanish 8 reales. Used hundreds of years in Europe and all over the world as colonial currency, in my opinion is a "must have" in your collection.
I have not pictures at the moment with what I have, because I've offered them already to my daughter, but something like these:

    https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces11524.html.

There are also many variations, different kings and from colonies.

I've come across this Peace Dollar from when I naively bought it in the last Silver run up in 2008, bought from a UK seller online.
Of course, now I realise that the grading company was all made up to inflate values, but I now want to sell this and quite a few others, Peace and Morgans, in this state.

How best to? Should I try and get the coins out of the casing (how?) or sell them "as is"?
The coins are all in good state but I don't suppose they are anything near the purported ones. MS64 in this case.
    Any opinions welcomed.
