Gold for Stacking

Hi SF members,

Interested to know what you purchase for stacking purposes. 

I've tried my hand at creating a poll. 

Hopefully it appears in this thread.

I've went every direction, I'm now back at sovereigns and 1/4oz tudor beasts. I will pick up other royal mint quarters if premium is on par with sovereigns. 

I will transition out of 1oz coins as soon as spot is high enough, that money will be put back into sovereigns, my view is liquidity May be an issue with 1oz coins or higher in future. Assuming spot ever leaves earth!

Remember to stick to ( doesn't have to be entirely, but mostly) CGT free coins from the mint, but bought elsewhere obviously.

Ja fractional gold is the key here. 1ozs are harder to shift and take longer to afford

It's not as much about purchasing, but selling that's important... Sovs are by far the most liquid on here.

For "stacking" this is bang on the money IMO

-Latest RM 1/4oz series
-Cheapest premium special reverse sovereigns

Agree with all the things said.

I think I’ve gone  through stages of buying whatever I want because it’s Pretty. The last couple of months has taught me when money is tight, extravagant things are a No No. Future is 1/4s and Sovereigns.

Silver and Tins of soup should be limited.

Will 1oz coins become too expensive in future? IDK. We're still lagging inflation with gold so unless gold overtakes inflation, which is a long way from the current spot price, then 1oz gold coins are getting proportionally less expensive as time goes on. Still a big whack of change. One thing I love about 1oz pieces is I can enjoy them without squinting

Stacking for the future, as a hedge, as generational wealth?

Folk are dismissing 1 oz coins but they are talking about flipping/buying and selling to increase their holdings. Specifically, the Forum.

There is no liquidity issue if you are selling to a dealer. Any weight will do.

For me any cgt free coin.  But on this site I try to buy Sov’s and half sovereigns.. from dealers sovereigns or 1oz cgt free coins of any type.

Not only because of their tax free status, but because I think they will be the easiest to move on in the future.

The other factor that I consider to be very important is that I am not particularly skilled at this kind of investing, so those coins represent the lowest risk in my opinion.

Good point. I suppose I consider stacking as a means to draw on, at times, in the not too distant future.

I'm interested in the buying habits of members at the moment. Where's the demand? If you're sitting on 1 ounce brits and people want fractionals/sovs on SF then it make sense to stack these. There will be the demand should you wish to liquidate here. Members will get better prices to buy and you will get a better price to sell back. 

If it's long term stacking I suppose higher ounces preferred as you could probably cash in to dealers and be quids in regardless, given enough time has past and gold continues to increase.

I dont really know how people view their gold. I.e. saving it for years/ decades until retirement, to pass on to family, just to store wealth instead of keeping cash in a bank etc. mixture of these? Buying habits will probably reflect this in part.

I think it is a mixture of all of these and, of course, there'll be some members don't really know why they stack, it just feels right!

i am in silver mode at the moment but when i have been in gold mode i get whatever is good value.

I don't vote as I have some of the above. 1oz Gold for low premiums, sov's for liquidity. 

I'm not too fussed as long as the premiums are low, because my main reason for stacking is a hedge against inflation for a section of my savings. 

Although it's nice to have shiny stuff you can hold.

Sovereigns mainly for me although I will pick up 1/10th oz gold if the price is right and funds are tight and 1oz ers if I'm feeling flush.  I've also started a 1/4oz Tudor Beast run as the £400+ ish price range is bearable.

I stack to preserve my wealth but lately it's been more about hiding it.  If we are indeed heading towards a reset I want "stuff" outside the system and I also want to look poor so if there is any kind of means testing I qualify and any kind of haircut to savings I don't.

Sovereigns every time - not only for the history and liquidity but also the sheer grace and beauty of this most Imperial of Coins which flowed through the economic veins of the Empire upon which the sun never set! Some of the older examples in your collective possession may have been present at Hanwella, Waterloo, Trafalger, Rourke's Drift, Khartoum and countless other mysterious and exotic (admittedly mainly purloined) corners of the world. Am I rambling again?

Sovereigns mainly, however 1oz with an understanding that if ever these need to be traded it will need to be via a dealer, which is fine as that is where they were purchased.

I like 11/2oz and 1/4oz Brits. I've yet to get into Sovs, mainly because I don't understand all the different collectibles etc... I think I'll start with current years and then slowly expand my knowledge. I think sovs and 1/2sovs again will be easy to shift in the future on places like this forum. 
If you're selling to a dealer/pawn shop, then the 1ozers will be sellable, but it's that age old conundrum, if and when PMs moonshot, who is going to be able to afford to pay £10000/oz? (We can but dream...)

I agree, the 1/10oz's are also worth picking up, again in an SHTF scenario, they could be useful, and it's a decent way to DCA in if funds are not conducive to heavier coins

I find this thread helpful as I have not long started stacking. I am glad I joined TSF as there seem s to be plenty of sound advice from members. I have gone of silver and more onto gold as the premiums look better sovereigns and 1/4,s for me am I doing the right thing or should you just go on your own tastes.
