Am I missing something? Silver Maple at auction

Ok I'm baffled this has an estimate of £50 to £60 with a 30% buyers fee. I cannot for the life of me see beyond a really poor condition bullion coin.

some of these provincial auctioneers don't have a clue about coins, and some buyers at these bid way too much.

Neither do some sellers. Maybe thought that it was more valuable in that condition, following general advice never to clean your silver coins! 😄

The system shows what they want, what it goes for is usually totally different. Trouble is, when you are looking through an auction like that you can’t leave a lower bid

Only worth scrap in this condition.
Shocking valuation but if you set a high price maybe some sucker will take the bait.
That’s why a few minutes research is valuable and another reason to discuss on this great forum.

The trouble is that some ignorant bidders use the auctioneers' estimate as a basis for their bids, some maybe subliminally.

These are Numismatic coins (not bullion) made by the Canadian Royal Mint (Mintage: 30,000) in 2002 and they are called "2002 $5 Coloured Maple Leaf: Spring". An ignorant person cleaned/abused them as they should be colored:
