Yup, there are a lot of greedy people about 😉

It looks awful, people are going to be trying to replicate the una gains for some time..

Yep. I fully expect all the normal EJ  coins to be back in stock in a month as flippers return. The special editions might do ok. Gold is only a 50 mintage.

I do not mind the design. The coins are lovely. I missed out on these as I was not able to get online this morning and you cannot reserve items unless you are a preferred customer with an account manager. I would like to think it would be possible to get a 5 oz in silver or gold, but sadly, unless you have an account manager I think it's an absolute waste of time.

This is slightly off topic, so apologies.

Of all the British Legends, History and designs possible, RM keep cranking out this c**p.

Agreed- I wouldn’t say I’m a massive fan of Elton John but he is very popular and across generations and his career enduring so a definite Legend.

I own several of his albums,  albums that I consider have merit musically- all from the 1970’s.

Some of the album artwork he commissioned is fabulous- this coin design doesn’t match some of the considered artwork he released to wrap around his albums.

This coin design is lazy and uninspiring and might cut it as a branding or as a marketing tool, but surely not on a £4.5k coin

If the Royal Mint want to produce a tribute coin of merit, they should try much harder- perhaps a high relief intricate design or a reverse proof of quality.

Here’s three of his cover designs that I managed to pluck from my LP shelves- other designs such as ‘Madman Across the Water’ & ‘Tumbleweed Connection’ are also classics, but I haven’t got my LP’s set out in any kind of order so I’ve given up trying to find them.

The 5oz silver one is available for pre-order at Koin club or some such see this thread. If you want the 5oz gold please let me know and I will help you get one.

My understanding is that the designs of these coins are based on elements approved by each copyright holders company and that the designs are fully approved by the Artists or copyright owners. This is to a large extent a licensing release not one that is the full choice of RM in terms of bands. Personally I like the design very much. It is simple and effective like many things that are successful. There is room for much better engraved intricate designs for example on the next Great engravers coin.

Good God, man, what have you been doing since lockdown?

I think I have arranged and rearranged my Vinyl about thirty times..........when doing it, I have also been playing some great old stuff - loads of Bill Evans and some of the early Now albums (Beautifully crafted Jazz all the way to a capella Flying Pickets!!). I do not have any Elton John on vinyl though - hmmmm - maybe spend someone of that money I had earmarked for a 2oz silver proof on some classic EJ vinyl!!!!

Thank you - that is super kind. However, I am not in a position to buy a gold coin at this time which is nothing unusual for me! I am interested in the silver and will have a look at that referral site - thanks for highlighting that. I have a fair amount of gold, but it is all in fractional amounts and not 5oz coins etc. I wish!!!

On the point of access to the Mint - why are they on sale at Koin club yet not at the Mint - any ideas? Is there a chance that Koin club will take more orders than they can provide for and end up refunding in September? Sorry to ask what probably amount to very daft questions.

Cheers,

Andrew.

Fortunately for me in terms of financially, its being business as usual so no time off but unfortunately, I detest my job...

My wife constantly threatens to chuck all the vinyl out if I don't tidy it up- I have got to admit, it is in a state and almost impossible to find what I/ we want to listen to...I try to convince her that I've modernised the record collection into a shuffle type deal...

Ah, I see- this article explains who owns the copyright to his and Taupin's work and what can be churned out:

Do people think the 5oz would be a good investment. Yes, there are only 50 of these, and yes the 50z James Bond (mintage of 440) is selling on Ebay for 740/750 at the moment, but long term is this likely to be a good investment? What do you think?

Short term if you ride the hype train they’re probably good for a flip with a tidy profit.

Long term and well after the hype has died I don’t think either of these coins have that classic, timeless design or desirability to sustain or grow their premiums. To me, these kind of coins feel gimmicky.

(Based on absolutely nothing other than my gut feeling about them).

I think it comes down to your view of coins. I love old classic designs and modern coins that keep to that spirit. The EJ coin looks like an abomination to me but I'm sure that there are loads of people that look at it and smile/laugh feeling that it captures the fun of EJ.

All distributors and RM partners have allocations to sell. RM runs a fairly complex multi-channel marketing program. I think many people assume a much more simplistic program and moan that they sold out in 5 mins but access can be given to Web Sales, Mint marque, Sales/Telephone, Distribution, International and Dealers who will all have allocations. If the web has sold out it does no harm calling or forming a friendship with a sales representative.

Depends on what returns you're after! I don't expect great things from Bond but I feel the classic design should keep it at £750 to £1000. I don't like the EJ coin but at only 50 it will be rare. The downside is that the design looks to be the same as all the others so it doesn't have a unique factor. All in all I suspect it will increase in value.

# note: all of the above is from a man that turned down three chances to buy a gold una so treat with care!

I think after the success of the Queen and EJ gold proof coins, RM will issue  the Beatles, the Take That, The spice Girls, etc.

I think this is a series about Music Legends

Personally, I think It would take quite a bit of imagination to apply those two words to the Spice Girls!😆
