To say these are minted to bullion standard, £400 for a sovereign does seem to be expensive.

It's too expensive imvho, unless the 'anniversary' appeals and your pockets are deep. The last time (was it late 2017 - so the 2017 release or the 'early' 2018?) there was a UK company selling these - they were at not much of a premium at just over £250 to start iirc. After our feeding frenzy (lol) they got more in at about £315 and everybody said 'no, bloodsuckers' etc (alright we may be a tight bunch on here 🤣).

They are lovely coins though, the alloy on the year I bought is far more 'golden' than the RM's version. And I do like my gold looking GOLD (as do India)! Great strike too the ones I have.

Otherwise I think they have super presentation in the card and look even better in the box imo, but the premium is just too high now.

When the Royal Mint was selling the 2015 I mintmark sovereign, they charged me £241 at the time, which was roughly around £20 more than a standard bullion sovereign of the same year. It did come in a box as well.

Having just seen that the BREXIT SOTD sovereign is £800, maybe these Indian sovereigns are actually a bargain!

I bought the 2018 for 350-ish but at a very different level of the gold price. So I guess the premium is similar now. After catching all the 2019 SotDs, maybe 2019 will be my only complete year.

Oh wait, I avoided the 2019 piedfort ... But that's not a real Sovereign.

Is the 2018 still available in India?

No need to buy from anywhere as exotic as India- Wolverhampton is as far as you need to travel

These have been available here for knocking on a year now

I thought given where the gold spot price is at it might be worth bumping this topic. When this was originally posted gold was hovering around £1200/oz and at the time of writing is £1440/oz but you can still get the 2019 India sovereign for £400 making it potentially more attractive.
