South Africa 1947 5 Shillings

Lunar Series 1 Silver Proof - 1oz Snake - 1oz Tiger - 1/2oz Rooster

Lunar Series 2 Gold Proof - 1/10th Ox - 1/10th Dragon

I have one more item coming but it'll be a while until I can buy anything else.

The only thing I'll be stacking for the next few months will be copper pennies.

You have been busy. Love the Rooster 1/2...

I wouldn't clean it mate, it's in such good condition.

If you really feel the need, try soap and water, but avoid rubbing the coin!

It is in lovely condition now and I would like to have it graded but don't want a grading of - details improperly cleaned

could try soaking it in distilled water, that's how ancient coins

can be cleaned. if it's oil based dye you could consider

gently dabbing with some cleaning alcohol. whilst the coin

shouldn't suffer, the aging process may be removed and

hence the value of the coin reduced, so exercise caution

and try a little bit first. cleaning coins always carries risks.

I have a theory that if NCS clean and prep it that it will get graded properly. I may be right or wrong but I have 3 coins at the moment that might benefit from professional conservation and so I will try this service and report back.

Not sure about any "aging process". That looks like a nice mint coin with some lustre on the background. There's some wear around the edge, but doesn't seem to have much if any anywhere else. Are these things collected at all, it's a nice age. Looks like a good buy.

Looks in great condition on the whole

I 100% wouldn't wash it... defo not

But those dark marks would annoy me, must be a way of removing them without touching the rest of the coin or damaging it.

Looks like some kind of ink etc Probably come of with a light dab with alcohol on a cotton bud. Just soaking in alcohol should also do it without any harmful consequences (works for me anyway ;) )  No rubbing though!
