Had my coins back from NGC. I sent in 29 coins, 28 of which obtained the top grade. Spot the lonely PF69!
I'm extremely happy and relieved, I was expecting a few PF70 but not 28 of them 🤣

Thankfully, all 4 graded PF70 Ultra Cameo, after conservation. Money very well spent. Needless to say, I'm very happy

2015 Gold Proof Fifth Portrait £1 Shield As with the silver proof pound coins, several gold £1 shields can often be extremely hard to track down as they were never issued as individual coins. This 2015 Fifth was only offered within the 8-coin gold proof Circulating Coinage set, mintage just 245. I'd never seen this particular coin offered on its Tod before, so I was a tad delighted to pick it up from the @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions auction for spot+ postage. Shame about the mortuary slab.

I am not explaining the run up - i am simply explaining the sudden out of the blue on a quiet Sunday evening spike - a mother of all spikes taking price to an all time high.
i am not saying it was anything to do with Israel - that was just my first thoughts as price took off, before i knew about the CB coming in and placing a big tonnage order on the spot market.
Maguire lives in this world. This is what happened - he will have got it from the horses' mouths. This isn't us guessing and reading guesses from technical analysts or Bloomberg journalists.
No-one said it was the China - all i got was it was a central bank made a huge order in the spot market. More and more central banks have been on the buy. I hear Maguire saying CB's have orders in the spot market - and sometimes it seems this could be the likes of China and Russia.
So you either accept what i have said i got from Maguire or say Maguire is a liar. Big spot market order - minutes later boom.
The paper and physical markets are not in different universes - they can and do drive each other. For years - well since the early 1970's when the gold futures market was launched it was the paper market that drove the price. This is because the bets are leveraged - traders act on margin - so a small amount of cash can control a lot of paper. The physical market is more cash - less margin - if you make a spot order and demand T+2 delivery then you need all the cash. A big order on the spot market has effects in the paper market - the bullion banks are in both markets - they are often long in the spot market and hedging (short) in the futures market. It is only the shorts that get advertised as the spot market is much more opaque - the commentators are unlikely to know what is going on there - only people who are actually doing the trades will really know.

A few coins received in the mail on Friday. The first one has had a hard life, this 1794 Mexican 8 Reals has been well chopmarked.
The second is a common date US Peace Dollar but in a very decent MS65 grade.
Next a nice silver Belgium 🇧🇪 coin to add to my world silver along with an 1885 silver coin from the Philippines 🇵🇭

Antwerpstacker reacted to paulmerton in Another Sub-Standard Proof Coin from the Royal Mint?
I'm sure most people on here will be familiar with the ridiculous amount of quality issues I've had with coins from the mint this year - and the problems I've had trying to get them resolved.
So to cut a long story short, I ended up going to the mint recently to have a meeting with the director of operations and some quality people. I was truly impressed by what I heard, but also mindful that I'd already been promised improvements (which didn't happen) by various other people previously. They acknowledged they'd let me down and wanted me to give them another chance, but I wasn't prepared to buy anything significant again until the past problems had been made up for.
So they arranged to send me a free silver proof 2023 definitive set.
I have just received it, and this is what one of the coins looks like...

Well after reading all the market analysis over the weekend, following the trends, and some technical analysis of today, I believe gold may go up or down in the near term, followed by some stability before it goes up or down again.

For what though? Maybe you are day-trading paper but otherwise what does it matter if gold goes up or down by 1%?
I'm a negative Nelly (my preferred pronoun) and as shown previously with figures from the Perth Mint (August 2023 report), we've got a long way to go until major breakouts:
The key levels we want to break right now are resistance at $1948 and then ATH (with a few in between). Once we break those we have the potential to start climbing fast
The guys that move markets, many of whom are confirmed gold bugs, are not advising their clients to pile back into gold until that $1950ish level. If we get to $1950 a wave of new money will take us to the ATH, then the next wave will bring us to $2500. I'm sure you've seen the predictions from mainstream institutions and analysts of $2500-3000 in 2024 and that is basically how they are reaching their conclusions along with Fed-watching
I care more about dips than peaks as I need to add to my stack. If and when the above bullish picture comes true it could happen so fast that it's impossible for physical stackers to ride the wave. Us physical guys need money as opposed to paper credit/leverage to buy gold so we should plan ahead, be happy about buying the dip, and relax. For us to realise positive price action we have to sell our gold!!
There was a really good article in Kitco a coupe of days ago. As investors we should always be looking at new info and trying to prove ourselves wrong. Is the above what is really going to happen with gold? We'll trade sideways then take, $1900, $1950 then break ATH? Then after that + 25-50%? I mean maybe, I hope so, seems logical if not certain to me over X horizon depending on Fed/BoE. But it might not.
I was the only person that I recall before the summer repeatedly calling a major dip. By some miracle I even guessed the turning points for both gold and silver, almost precisely in the case of silver (within 1%) and pretty good on gold (within 1.5%). I'm super bullish on the long-term picture for gold but I'm not blind to the risks in between. What would have happened to gold if the Fed continued to hike until Xmas, there was a recession and there was no tension with Israel? Gold would have went to $1700 or indeed $1615
If you buy gold today there is a risk you could lose 10% of your investment before the future moon. This is not a crypto forum or a day-trading forum, we shouldn't be pushing endless bullish optimism (aka propaganda) without considering the bearish alternative
I appreciate your posts and your insights but as you well know, life can sometimes be a b***h and if you're not prepared for the bad times they can hit hard
I think it's clear the unbiased optimal strategy right now is not piling into gold from a purely neoliberal viewpoint (i.e. we only care about making money, not insurance, generational wealth, assets outside the system, CBDCs or things of that nature). The optimal strategy is holding cash and cash-like equivalents (bills, notes, bonds, ISAs, NS&I, etc), waiting for the recession to strike, then buying the dip. That is the least risky strategy that also offers the potential for large gains if you pivot at the right time, become risk-on, buy the dip and then hold long. Of course there's also a chance there is no dip and you completely miss out
