TheShinyStuff got a reaction from GoodAsGold in 2020 Una and the Lion
I've really enjoyed reading this thread - an interesting range of opinions on an undoubtedly remarkable coin. I should say that I dont own one, mainly because (relatively) expensive proof silver gives me the fear of waking up to milk spotted bullion one day.
If I had one, then I genuinely dont know what I would do. I see the merit in both sides of the stick/twist debate. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
I will keep watching with interest. If the value collapses, I'll pick one up for 50 quid! - if it keeps on flying then congrats (and even tougher decisions) to those of you who bought them.

2009 Royal Mint UK Silver £1 BU
In 2009 the Royal Mint produced the first of five consecutive annual silver BU one pound coins. Issued in a flimsy card box and an absurdly pliable capsule with the structural rigidity of clingfilm, the coin was an immediate and comprehensive sales debacle. In focusing the coin on a somewhat questionable target-market of those on a quest for an imaginative 30th birthday present, we can only assume that RM advertising team must surely have been "moved along" pretty sharpish. If the evidence is anything to go by, they were, to a man, redeployed to the Quality Control Department. According to their own website, out of a total maximum mintage of 50,000 just a derisory 359 were actually issued. I await confirmation of these figures from the mint. As my requests were only sent earlier this month, I expect to be apprised in the New Year. The happy result is that the mint's most poorly packaged coin, with the most ill-conceived marketing, has turned out to be the rarest silver definitive coin ever produced by the Royal Mint. The coin itself is a good clean strike and will make an excellent new addition to my Ag One Pound collection - which has an updated target total of 80 designs. This is the first example I have ever seen and I was delighted to snaffle it for a bargain-basement £25. Huzzah! I still need the 2010 and 2012 silver BU £1 coins, if anyone can help. They were both sold in "Baby", "18th Birthday" and "21st Birthday" sets.

TheShinyStuff reacted to ZigZag in Full Stack / Full Collection Photos
Silver stack mission complete.
Took this photo the other day as I wave farewell to it all. This is for my kids, they like the sets specially the Kookaburra and some of the little ones in the second pic. The bars, tubes and cases with date runs are going into secure storage only to be visited when added to.
All the single coins I’m now selling off to add to Sovereigns or Brits. Well that’s the plan unless something tempts me 😆

A couple of cheeky wee pick ups. Both courtesy of SilverTrader, as always a top quality service.
Using a couple of his discount codes definitely made these the cheapest around or at least as far as I could see at the time.
Closes off my collection of the 2oz Beasts, its been a journey!
The Nautical was a last minute addition but honestly the pictures don't do it justice at all, it really is a beautiful piece.....or at least I think so 😁

I went all in during the dip a few weeks ago. Just need to do some calculations and see if the loft boards will take the 100oz bar. 😳

Royal Mint 2008 Gold Proof £1 Shield Although still one coin short of the full set of different 75 silver round pounds, I thought this fellow might make an attractive headliner for my planned display. This particular design is the most prolific, featuring on the reverse of eleven Ag £1 coins from 2008-2016 (twice in 2012 and 2015). Weighing in at 19.61g of 22ct gold (17.98g agw), it is over twice as heavy as its Sterling silver counterpart. Total mintage 1746, including those issued in sets. A splendid deal courtesy of @MancunianStacker

That is amazing. Did you see the double holder that Martin at Silvertrader had for showing both sides together? I was sorely tempted but had already picked up the lunars a couple of days before and had to put my sensible hat on.☹
