The cigar box silver treasure chest coming along nicely. Little bits of poured silver added each month. Nice to have something to hand to look at as opposed the gold that’s vaulted and less accessible

Time to return a couple ounces. Think rather have that £5k back for bullion investing these days.
When the days come now that you have to check every proof coin with a loop is a time to move to bullion.
Interested other peoples thoughts?

So, most of my Q3 stuff is in - astute observers will notice that there's a missing pile of Krugerrands, and there's also a bit of numismatic stuff still en route. Perhaps I will take another photo once all the Q3 stuff is in. It's starting to look like a stack now, though, so -
Q4's plan is a bit more prosaic and longer on gold - a few sovs, a 1/4 oz Tudor lion and maybe a 1oz brit. Possibly some other bits and bobs of silver in the numismatic space.

Turned down buying silver today, thought I’d reflect on what I’ve got instead.

I had to drop some new items off at safe deposit box yesterday, so took my camera along to finally see my gold stack together - viewing room table wasn't big enough to get everything into one shot For someone who could never hold onto money in his 20s I think Ive done OK

Ushao reacted to Pete in Requesting advice on where best to sell gold proof coins
Thanks @Tn21
I am afraid you may end up facing reality when it comes to selling proof coins that you believe are worth much more than bullion.
I tried to sell a considerable amount of stunning, perfect gold sovereigns, boxed sets, Britannia's and boxed sets a couple of years ago.
Firstly on the forum - I ended up selling a significant percentage but at 1% over spot only.
I had regular buyers and they were not interested in certificates or boxes and I thought buying a boxed set would enhance their value but apparently not so.
The best prices from any dealers were 98% of spot whilst the same sets shown on their websites at twice this price, however they were not selling at these prices and one dealer offered me to buy his boxed sets at 3% over spot, regardless of the advertised prices.
In frustration one day I took a large carrier bag of unsold gold coin sets to Hatton Garden in London.
Their best price that day was 97.5% of spot.
Every coin was in FDC condition so I handed them over but kept the boxes thereby intentionally breaking up the sets.
I only wish I had kept the screw capsules as well as I felt I was being fleeced.
I still have a lot of empty boxes and certificates which I would rather sell at some stage rather than scrap.
Times change, prices change, opportunities arise and decline so I can only tell you what happened to me.
I think when gold is at a high, buyers are reluctant to pay much over spot.
If gold plummeted 15-25% from where it is today, then I believe buyers will pay more especially for nicer coins believing they are getting a bargain.
You might strike it lucky but I fell in love with my proof coins, was happy paying a hefty premium at the time of purchase etc. believing that a 20-30% premium over bullion would stick.
It didn't, so I stay well clear of buying premium proofs nowadays as lesson learned.
Some key dates and sought after coins and sets will retain a numismatic / collector premium but you need to research this thoroughly and not just look up well know sites to see what prices they list on their websites as an indicator of value. There will always be the exception to what I describe but that's down to luck and finding a buyer at the moment.

Ushao reacted to Gruff in SILVER DEALS - (UK & Europe) See a deal, post it here
This is a good question and one some of us have discussed/joked about on this forum about driving to Europe and buying 1000oz bars and driving back. But on a serious note, my understanding (so I could be completely wrong here), is that if it is not jewellery then you are limited to:
Allowance for other goods
You can bring in other goods worth up to £390 (or up to £270 if you arrive by private plane or boat).
If you go over your allowance you pay tax and duty on the total value of the goods, not just the value above your allowance.
You may have to pay customs duty if you exceed your allowance.
Import VAT
You may have to pay import VAT on the total value of the goods plus duty. You pay VAT at the current UK VAT rate.
That is based on information listed in: https://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/print
However if you are stopped and haven't declared anything they could also assume you were trying to smuggle the goods in, in which case you are liable to forfeit all of it.
Your goods and any vehicle you use to transport them may be seized if you break the rules. You may also be fined or prosecuted.
That is based on information listed in: https://www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use
Hope that helps. I would not want to take the risk of entering with more than £390 worth of silver, just incase it was taxed or worse deemed to attempt to smuggle it in. Having said that the other thing that could be argued is that as Britannias are legal tender, would be to purchase 5000 silver Britannia's and bring them into the country as the face value does not exceed the £10,000 limit of cash in Sterling or foreign currency equivalent. But I wouldn't want to try this and I'll make the declaration this isn't sound financial advise or any serious advise.
Our resident expert on bulk purchases before the iron curtain fell on VAT free silver in the UK, is @BackyardBullion, he is extremely helpful and will probably have some better insight that me.

I love these hand cast bars in denominations from 1oz to 5oz. I appreciate this skillful craftsmanship and gladly pay one or the other euro more.
Also these two sets of Angel and Noble in Proof and Reverse Proof from 2017 each in an edition of 500 pieces inspire me very much. And the 5€ coin from Malta - Knights of the Past - is an absolute dream piece from the Germania Mint.
Greetings from Maxe
