45 dollars per coin!!!! Who even pays that? Anything at a good price is good, but it's about having items people recognise and would want. That is why the junk silver in America is so popular because for them it's normal currency they are already used to and have in their pockets.

My strategy is finding bundles for spot price. So mainly I find circulated world coins seem to be the best bet. Generally in good condition and great value. I do also buy British and American, but is always pretty much over spot except pre 47 British silver which I tend to buy spot or just under and then sell it on for a bit more. It can take time and sometimes I pay slightly over spot, but my aim is to have the cheapest stack possible that I could sell fast if I needed to. With the odd bit of nice stuff in there that I like. It just depends on what your overall aims are with your stack.

The premium is depending of what you want to have in your hands. Silver flatware .800, .925 and coins .500 pre47 can be found at spot very often, but american .900 pre64 and .925 pre20 is day after day more expensive, being more collectible.

Absolutely, we don't really know what's going to happen. I think that's why I buy and sell some of it, to help pay for the bits I keep. Also, it's a lot of fun and I love learning about history through the coins.

@LukeStacker I don't think if you look at the Silver charts there is any showing that it protects your wealth. Good luck but none of us know what will happen in the end. We all have view points.

im not ignoring silver - i have a heavy position in silver, i'm still waiting for to go to the moon for the reasons i was told in 2007/2008
the same reasons & arguments for it have not changed since i started stacking
my question is just WHY ? isn't it where it should have been 20+ years ago
If nothing has changed in 20 years, who's to say, it is not going to be exactly the same for another twenty years
To invest 40 years of time/money into something that break evens - a wise investment ?
We still had mobiles, laptops, PCs, solar panels, cameras in 2000s that needed silver
It always seems to be wait, it is just round the corner before the silver rocket    🚀  🚀🚀blasts off to the moon !   my bloody silver rocket will have got a wheel clamp and parking ticket knowing my luck

remember folks - just like in 2011 when we raced up to £30oz - sentiment was - no need to sell , as the silver train was gonna race straight to £50oz in the next station
The peak price was only there for less than a month to take advantage of, it had drop -£10oz like a hot rock very soon after in matter of a few months
back track the silver graph of 1980 high from the Hunt Brothers cornering things, the peak was again only there for a very small window of time to take advantage of the peak price.  it was never there for a sustained period of time, all them commentators and pudits seem to always fail to mention
when normally rational people, will do irrational things, like loading up at a peak price, for fear of missing out (FOMO) when their rationale side should have been buying when silver was sub-£10oz for that short window - but sentiment for silver was at its lowest
i wish now, from day one of starting my stacking journey i had just bought gold now and just ignored silver entirely
    hindsight and experience {sigh}

Imagine driving to Italy, buying them and then driving back to the UK. Then pretending you have nothing to declare at customs

After checking through a few you do get a feel for them and the sound they make. A case of 'hmm... this one seems a bit strange' compared to the others lets investigate further even without checking the date. I had a bulk load of half crowns that came in capsules recently and out of 270 I noticed the 4 that were not 50% just as I was whipping them out of the capsules whilst watching a few videos not specifically reading the dates on them all carefully.

I think it was only the small denomination silver coins (i.e 3d and 6d) that were produced in both types of silver alloy (.500 and .925) in 1920.
The larger coins were all .500 silver I believe.
In any case, sterling silver (925) tends to be whiter in appearance. Whereas 500 silver has a more greyish tone.

I am all about buying any silver as close to spot as possible. If you get to a time when you need to cash out then selling for current spot price in my mind is a fast and easy way to sell; especially if you don't have a selling track record.
Also I did take it to a dealer then at least I would get close to spot and therefore (depending on how many years I held for) likely be still making a little bit or at the very least releasing the money; which is what I need.
I buy some premium to either resell or because I genuinely like it and want it, but otherwise coins, cutlery etc at spot price please.

Yeh I quite like the design also. I have 2 of those and a handful of the pre 1920 crowns but generally I stick to the lower premiums. @DuncanWylieWilson keeps calling me the scrap man 😂
