Disappointingly, I got a call from a call from a “financial advisor” today.
I don’t use “financial advisors” for many reasons.  They find me on LinkedIn or from things I do with relation to my day job.
Today’s caller wanted to talk to me about CGT free gold investments “given the recent budget changes”.
I gave Fred about 6 minutes on the phone and (as usual) was very unimpressed.  2 min pitch on why gold works for “someone like me” (I don’t know him so how the fluck would he know?)
The specifics were terrible.  I asked very explicitly about the coins which might be CGT free “British ones”.
Equally woolly was the whole “where are they kept” can I keep them?  The answer was “we are working on building a safe keeping service”.  Gold doesn’t work well for investment advisors (happy to explain why).
I wonder if anyone else has seen / heard of similar?
Dealers are offering above spot for a number of types of coins….

You think that they haven’t sold a few hundred coins, that they haven’t struck yet, in a few days, that this is an issue to the Royal Mint? They strike lots of coins in gold that they are more than happy to sit on for years. 
I suspect not, more that @westminstrel is correct in that it was a balls up and was always the case, it’s not unusual for them to make that type of mistake. They are an odd business, but in their weird way they are protective and proud about who they are and what they do and represent. These sovereigns along with the other coins they have tagged as “memorial” is their way of honouring the passing of QEII and they will proudly stand by their mandate. 

Yeah on that basis, ignore everything I said!
Get some London mint 1/4 sovereigns made into earrings instead. Think they do installment plans through a certain magazine 😆

Another thing to consider Roy, if/when you or kids are ever reselling, only the gold content will be taken into consideration. A 0.3ct diamond whether from the ground or a microwave, won't add much/any extra to the price on second hand jewellery ( sorry jewelry 😅)
