The only reason paying into a company pension for me is  the FREE Life Insurance. Most firms pay 5 times your salary if you die in work. Peace of mind for me and the other half, if either of us dies whilst in work, the surviving person will be able to live a reasonable life thereafter. I agree GOLD is a good way to save instead of a pension, I have built up a tidy stack since 2017.

Firstly I have to point out that the vast majority of members are respectful to one another and respect other member's trade topic. So thank you to all of these members.

TSF has a policy against unsolicited comments in other members trade topics. Recently there has been a growing number of posts, and childish behaviour that has been slipping over from the non PM section into genuine trade topics of other member's, and completely derailing their sales topics and turning them into a joke. TSF is all up for members having a laugh and some banter and joking around, and it is why we specifically have a non PM section of the forum as well as this topic here, so members do have a section where they are allowed to discuss (nearly) anything and to joke around in. But member's trade topics where your fellow members are trying to trade in, is not the place.

Please remember that TSF is a business, with many professional dealers and industry representatives on as well as many serious collectors and investors. We are trying to grow the trade section for everyone. We would be grateful if you could please respect other forum members and our rule about unsolicited comments and treat the forum's trade section with seriousness as it is a place of trade.

In general I try not to interfere and like I said am all up for members having fun and a joke about (in the correct non PM section of the forum) but I have even had continual reports from a few long standing members who are not happy that the trade section is receiving a rise in such unsolicited comments and behaviour, which has resulted in several sellers sometimes withdrawing their items from sale. Again please try to contain yourself within the non PM section.

Unsolicited comments (such as pages and pages of members joking around in one trade topic) also unfairly bump such topics up, hiding other members trade topics as well as completely derailing and destroying the trade topic of the member who is just trying to sell their item(s). It is also very off-putting to new members, we wish to encourage new members and for TSF to grow.

Please see the forum's rule on unsolicited comments here:
Sellers who receive unsolicited comments in their trade topics, please report for moderator review. Trade topics may also be put into moderator approval queue, and/or warning points issued to accounts as the moderators see appropriate in order to uphold the forum's trade section.

Really bored at work last night so thought I would have a look how certain things performed in 2022. I used the macro trends website and looked at the price on the 1st of Jan 2022 and compared to current price. If I am slightly off it was 3am so don't shoot the messenger but interesting to visualize.
    Metals
Gold (4.9% down), silver (0.54% up), platinum (4.4% up), palladium (16% down), copper (88.46% up), tin (44% down).
    Crypto
BTC (64% down), Eth (67% down).
    Top companies
Apple (25% down), Google (38% down), Microsoft (27% down), Amazon (49% down).
Copper seems to be a clear winner for the year and is interesting to see how it's unaffected from the downturn. The most disappointing for me is tin as both are used in industry and would thought they would be more aligned. metals in general have held up well considering everything else.

Whilst the profits is parcels I think Royal Mail trying to compete with other couriers will eventually lead to a similar shoddy cheap service. All  special delivery items and parcels will soon have no " Sorry you were out " cards left if not at home.. it means the postman will attempt to deliver the item 3 times then the item will be returned to the sender.   Imagine going on holiday and a dealer has posted you a special delivery . It'll never arrive if you're away for more than 3 days.  Doorstep will become the accepted norm , which is not a great idea in the hobby. They will close all enquiries offices to save money. So you won't even be able to visit a local office to collect a parcel or complain to someone.  I'm not trying to scare people just pointing out the decline of Royal Mail is the race for profits v other couriers rather than its just greedy workers wanting more money. My advice would be to hold on for now and complain as much as possible to the regulators.  I think soon people will need to be very careful when they post items to make sure the receiver will be in to receive.

I was at the post office on Thursday evening, standing first in a small queue, post office worker muttered nexxxxxt. I ask was it working ( referring to the scales) of course he said.
I pointed out there was a bin lid sitting on top of them 😆 to which he exclaimed "well I was sorting rubbish too you know "
I took the softer approach ( fought the urge to roar back) and asked was he having a rough day. His whole expression changed to the point of almost tears 😢 as I approached the counter he began to tell me about the amount of customers coming into the store to ask where their Christmas parcels where?? Apparently they deemed him responsible as he took payment for postage ffs.
He went on to tell me the strikes will achieve very little as upstairs will just fire postman and woman and bring in outside workers if this keeps up.then if they want there jobs back, they can reapply with a 20% reduction in pay, Apparently the post men have little to no morale left and it's not going to get better anytime soon.

To be fair we are seeing massive changes in this country since the government in its wisdom decided to let more than half the population sit at home and do nothing for two years ( postal workers kept working ).  The strike is not even about wages. The average age of a postal worker is mid 50s and beyond.  As a huge amount of people in the country in this age bracket have decided they no longer want or need to work the postal workers have decided that they won't accept new conditions more suited for a 20 year old student desperate for beer money. The Royal Mail will die out like the miners but what is left is not going to be any better in any circumstances.

At work i have upgraded all deliveries to RM24 but tomorrow is the last day as Friday and Saturday strikes.

I hope the workers appreciate that the court of public opinion will be against them for striking so close to xmas.
