I suppose it depends on where you are located? There is always coin fairs but generally they will know the value same as online dealers. Sometimes you can get lucky if you have a local coin dealer or even an independent jewellers and build up a bit of relationship with them to get reasonable prices.

Yes, I'd say so. There's some helpful info for identifying jubilee head sovereigns here:

ShineyMagpie reacted to arphethean in Is BU a misleading term to use for a bullion sovereign?
Some of the BU coins were made in tiny numbers and they are very similar to proof in finish. NGC usually mistake them for proofs and give them an PF grade, so they're weird from a few points of view!

I think the term BUNC can only ever be used by the original issuer, IE royal mint
Once it is sold and in private hands, there no way to verify or say with 100% confidence it is what it is
    It's bullion and nothing special
These days buy new direct from mint, grade, hope for MS70 and there you have your 3trd party verification it's BUNC but it's still bullion, just much better condition than average bullion

Agreed, my point of view also, proof may hold a slight premium due to limit numbers produced, not sure that thr RM BU coin will hold much of a premium over RM bullion over time.

It's means something to royal mint when marketing and selling the original product
When it comes.to selling most people won't be prepared to pay a premium.
    It's just bullion my eyes

Thanks @Wileyfox think that is the best answer and source of evidence for @arphethean to use. A description of bullion vs BU from none other than the RM. if a seller has chosen a deviation from these description without explanation that should be just cause as a "misleading" sale title.

I think what @Happypanda88 has said is completely correct, if there was a sudden drop in the price of gold, we are talking here a dip as apposed to the 'new norm' I'm sure most dealers would just stand fast and wait to see if it blowes over. How could they possibly afford to effectively give things away at a loss from what they bought it for. Longer time this may happen, but I think it would be a graduate drop as the some dealers will need cash flow and try to out bid each other while still maintaining as much premium as possible.

I think he was saying, there is already a thread discussing the gold premium currently. People speculation as to why etc, so you could go and look on that thread as people may not want to repeat on here.

Anything is possible as they are paper prices at the end of the day.
Who would have thought that the US Crude Oil could go down to -$37.63 per barrel in April 2020. This didn't mean the oil companies would give you a barrel of oil for free plus $37.63.
Even if gold were to suddenly drop to £750 spot, I bet no one would be able to buy anywhere near that price. And the dealers would be "out of stock" in a flash !

Hmm I'm not an expert (or anything close to) but to my eyes it looks like a fake. 1)I thought the first thing to ware was top of the ear not the hair on this coin? 2) the "clean/deep definition on the front of the face looks off maybe lighting. 3) the lack of clarity on some of the text 4) the "overspill" on the top left of the 2nd picture makes it look cast 5) doesn't look to have milled edge (but may have been in a mount and warn). That's just  few of the issues I see be curious to hear other thoughts though. Helpful to know what to look for.
Maybe a others can offer opinions: @LawrenceChard @

@shabs in short potentipotentially yes, always look at dealers offers they may be cheaper, but there often cheaper than dealer offers on this site. Have a look at the UK buy and sell page and see what offers are available. You can do this before buying membership if you wish, but some listing will be hidden. You can see previous completed sales to give you an idea of item that sold and price.

Quite often you can buy coins here cheaper than a dealer.  In practice, you will need an account in order to see new listings, which is just a few quid a month.
You'll have to be on the ball, though - there are some pretty quick hoovers ready to pounce on the good deals.
