Detail. Detail. Detail. Or rather - lack of detail!
The coin is apparently based on this:

There’s some gorgeous details in there… but then we have this?

I agree with @dikefalos. Where did the detail go? This looks like a low budget reproduction of a high end coin. I’m so disappointed.

Yes. I think it is a perfect storm of events that has caused the prices to drop.  But in the long term these classic designs will be sought after and probably won’t be as easily available as at today’s prices.

I also think the Gothic design is a masterpiece as well.  Look at the original Gothic Crown after 100 year, it is still a gorgeous piece of art.

I think this is the perfect time for collectors who have funds to spare to scoop up the Great Engravers coins.  They are classic designs and will definitely appreciate in value.  The other series I don’t really think much of tbh; they were never going to have longevity.

Looks like RM modern coins (Bond, Queen, Elton, The Who, etc) have been slaughtered…when you take into account postage, grading costs, shipping, auction fees etc..most sellers here will be at best even, and some out of pocket….and that’s when the spot price of gold is currently historically high (in GB£)
One bad auction doesn’t set new markets prices, but I kind of think that this was in the making for some time…too many releases from the RM has flooded the market place, in a short period of time.

    You thought correctly.
I / we have been in the numismatic business since before 1964.
The Royal Mint didn't start producing and marketing collector coins until 1970, just ahead of decimalisation, so there would have been nobody at the mint to build a relationship with.
Even then, they decided that they would market direct, so there was still no way to start a relationship with them. This may have been partially because there was no established market in the UK for new issue coins.
In the run up to decimalisation, and before the RM started, we were active in sourcing mint bags of new coins, and making up our own annual coin sets. If you come across any minty UK coin sets from about 1965 to 1967, there is a good chance (about 50%) they were ones we assembled and sold.
I don't remember which year the RM started offering to supply UK dealers direct, but guess it might have been in the 1980s.
We didn't set up our first web site until 1998, so until then, there was probably no way we could have generated sufficient sales volume to make it worthwhile us taking direct new issue coins and sets from the RM. At that time, we were the only coin dealer in the UK to have a website, and also one of the first in the world.
In 1999, I decided it was time we joined in, influenced by the expected popularity of Princess Diana, and her memorial crown. From memory, I think we bought 500 of the BU specimen pack crowns direct from the Mint. These were £9.95 from the RM, but I think we discounted them to £8.95 https://24carat.co.uk/frame.php?url=princessdianacrown.php.
Just before 1st January 2000, when investment gold became exempt from VAT in the UK and EU, we launched two new websites https://goldsovereigns.co.uk/ and https://taxfreegold.co.uk/, which helped to expand the UK market for gold bullion. These three heritage websites still exist, but we no longer actively maintain or update them.
In 2000, when the RM restarted production of bullion sovereigns, we contracted with them for a direct supply. We were expected to buy a minimum of 5,000 of their bullion sovereigns in a 6 week period in order to qualify for their optimum pricing. We failed to achieve this, and had to pay a surcharge on the ones we had taken. As we made little or no profit on the deal, we stopped, and did not try again for some years, 2005 I think.
We also found that it was for many years cheaper, better, and easier, to buy proof sovereigns, and most other collectable new issues from international distributors, than direct from the Mint.
For most of the above time, we pitched our prices at a discount compared with the Royal Mint, and I strongly suspect they did not like this, although most of our customers did.
They also threatened legal action against us when I dared to point out that our Sovereign Mintmark Sets https://goldsovereigns.co.uk/mintmarksets.php were cheaper, and better than their sets. It is difficult to maintain a good trading relationship with a company who threatens without justification, to sue you for defamation.
Despite the above, we did buy bullion sovereigns from them, from 2005 I think, although during the Financial / Credit / Banking / Sub-Prime crises of 2008/9, it was very difficult to get supplies because big American, and possibly German distributors hoovered up most of their production.
I also can't remember when we stopped dealing with them, but think it may have been January 2015. They gave us no notice and no reason. It is difficult to maintain a successful trading relationship with a state owned monopoly supplier who treats its customers in such a manner.
Your last sentence (question?) "Why on earth would a British company which has been trading for nearly 60 years need to buy British gold from overseas." was quite a good one. I would be delighted if you would ask the Royal Mint, and extremely surprised if you received an answer.

That was an interesting possible explanation he speculated on - that NCG would've sent coins to graders' homes for grading due to Covid. These marks on the Graces, the Arms, and on his Wolverines are not normal and the fact that NGC fails to produce any explanation how they came about is downright baffling... not to mention that the customer has no recourse; you still have to pay the fees and there's no compensation for the ruined coin.

I don't know its so weird because the images for the thick holders on their website has the prones, and the gold 2oz that had the thick holders had prongs too.. So did 2oz silver coins from other mints... I will post it here if I hear anything.

All of the 2oz silvers are put into these holders. I think it is just the design for their thicker holders.

This is all so ridiculous!  First, problems with QC issues with the RM and now slabbing issues with NGC.  Seeing all this, there is absolutely no way I am sending any of my coins for grading.  If I am happy with my coins as they are raw, they will stay that way in the mint packaging.

This was sent by submitter to customers yes. Those coins were sent back to see if NCS could fix. They could not. Then coins were just returned to customers like this. Given a £15 credit on their account with submitter for delayed time. That was all. Chasing up RM would do no good as they only offer coins to a standard of PF68 so these fall into this bracket.

I have no clue. I have asked the submitter I use. Surely this has ruined the resale value of the coin so must be insurance claimed.
