Thank you all for the insights, defo a lot to consider especially regarding buyers and that 1/4's or Sovs will be easier to get rid of. Thanks to @Stuntmanfor a visual comparison that was very helpful and very nice to see some of your cool coins.
I will definitely check the offers and sellers of the forum before i got to a dealer as i really want to support the members on the forum.

Yes, I would.
Saving up to buy a full ounce is fraught with difficulty: sod's law says the price of gold will increase when your saving begins and the purchase of a full ounce gets further away.
Your interests change, fickle as we are, and the savings get diverted elsewhere. God forbid, you're faced with an personal emergency or a family dilemma.
The strategy I follow, and many others too, is to pound cost average. If you can afford a quarter now, buy one and start saving for the next. Don't worry about the spot price, it will balance out.
Your stack will increase, you will feel more comfortable handling coins and making offers and you can trade your coins up and sideways.
* @Tn21 will look after you.

I like to work on the 60/1 ratio. So for every 15 Oz of silver I like to have a sov. It's only since joining the form I decided to do this as many years previous I was just silver. The only reason I went with sovereigns in that buyers seem to love them. I recently sold a few and they generated a lot of interest and eventually sold within 24hrs. I've not really looked into fractional Brits but if I was thinking about it I would head over to the sales section and have a look at completed ads and see when they were listed. I know it's not full proof research but may give you some idea of liquidity.

Well I have quite a few 1oz Gold coins from around the world...so now I'm consentrating on fractional gold..just because I want to have diversity in my collection.

Get your 1/4s or Sovs in ASAP, worry about the ounces later on

I'd go for the 1/4 or 1/2 oz when it's a liquidity/exit future plan in the future..slightly higher premiums of course..but easier to sell when needing emergency cash...
I do like the the 1/10th oz purely as a collectable date run britannia....not the best price and premium wise..just like collecting them...but as you have been told probably so many times..Best price premium wise is a 1oz..but not everyone can splash out in one go £1350'ish for a 1oz 2021 britania..and when you start looking at specific dates privy marks commemorative coins you are going to spend £200-400 over £1350.00 for these higher premium collectable coins..personally it's a rip off but that's the market for these hyped up by greedy owners..😉😉😉😉😉.cest la vie.....😲😲😲

Just don't fall for getting the gold standard 1/4 off royal mint not at 650 a crack

To give an idea of scale, here are various Dragons in sovereign, double sovereign and quintuple sovereign size, 1/4 oz gold size, 1 oz gold, silver and platinum size, and 10 oz silver size.

You can get more variety with the 1/4 oz coins, but a 1 oz gold coin is an awesome thing to behold.
I would be very tempted to save up for the 1 oz coin, especially if you are looking to keep it for several years and just enjoy the pleasure of ownership.
In particular, in your position I would be looking at the 1 oz QB completer coin right now.
If you are considering going down the 1/4 oz route though, I would suggest looking at either a Britannia or a Gold Standard as your first port of call. Both very elegant designs IMO, especially the Gold Standard.

I'm in the same boat, I'm buying sovs and 1/4oz slowly building up to the big 1oz! slow and steady.
I vouch for @Tn21 top seller 🤙

Thank you very much for letting me know and i will consider that and get in touch with you when i decide to purchase but probably won't be until end of next month, I'll enquire with you first and check if you still have any. I am aware that Sovs are similar with lower premium but i would prefer the Brit anyway.
Thanks again

Thank you all! lots to consider. I like what @Tn21 has to say, many people probably struggle with buying a whole ounce and if i think about my exit strategy, being able to sell as quick and easy as possible will be beneficial so I think i'll buy the 1/4s and get an ounce one day

If you do decide on a Sovereign, beware, it's a slippery slope!
Many of us learn't the hard way!!

Quarters carry a premium over a 1 ounce.
Perhaps consider Sovereigns - they have a low premium over spot
Best

The 1/4ozs will in Theory appeal to a wider audience when it comes time to sell.
The 1/4ozs will come at a premium over the 1oz but you should be able to get that premium back over time.
My opinion is to get the 1/4ozs inside the locker first.

I really want to purchase some gold as i have filled my first tube of silver and want to celebrate. Now i cannot afford to get a one ounce gold coin in one go, sadly. So i am considering buying a quarter ounce coin instead as i can afford that but thinking i may be making a mistake.
Would anyone recommend that i buy a 1/4 ounce for now and then get 3 more over time? Or should i just be patient and save up for the ounce?
Thanks in advance.

DuperDash reacted to SilverStunna in Hello from a newbie
Hello everyone, I am a young guy from Europe. Ever since I was a kid I have always been fascinated by numismatics and coins, however I have yet to start collecting silver. I'm sure I am in the right place to begin though, I have been lurking for quite a bit and it seems so chill here.
Looking forward to start my collection and to learn a lot of things here 🥈
Have a nice day lads! 🍻

Hello everyone,
I found this forum via Backyard Bullion and I'm looking to use it as source of information and for occasional trading.
Robert Kiyosaki: Gold and Silver Are God's Money
This quote got me into this.
Kind regards,

Yes mate, have used BBP a few times to purchase gold.
Not the cheapest but have never let me down so its on the list of websites I check before pulling the trigger.
Good luck with your purchase!
