If I were in your position, I’d agree with Lawrence in terms of writing to ebay. Moreover, I’d actually go on LinkedIn (if you have a profile there)and see if you can try and find someone in the upper management chain and message them directly.

i’ve done this before (to An post rather than Ebay) in a situation where parcels from the UK kept being declined by customs. I reached out to a director at An post and after a few messages it turns out that they had a break in their declaration process for UK senders and that got fixed.

not the same issue, but I do feel like if you’re just fighting against the bureaucratic system, it sometimes helps a lot to reach out to someone directly.

sorry for your loss in this case, but a valuable experience either way.

With the item being sold under false/fraudulent pretences, I would turn my attention to eBay and persist with a complaint against eBay as the provider of the sale. If they do not wish to take action against the private seller/ con artist, then that is their decision.
I have heard of cases where buyers & sellers alike have taken eBay to small claims court for a refund, with ebay paying up at the first instance rather than defend the claim.
It may or may not be the case that since you did not return the item, you are not entitled to any refund. That said, It is also the case that regardless of the item being returned, you have suffered losses as a result of being sold an item under false/fraudulent pretences.
You could even offer to replace the item that went missing in transit with an identical worthless replica coin in order to solve the dispute.
Any suggestion that the item was actually legitimate could be contended based on the photos of it being an obvious fake, along with all the other 💩 this con man is/has been pedalling.
I understand it’s easy for me to make these comments without having any legal expertise. I would take the time to research the law to decide whether it is worth pursuing further than eBay’s internal procedure (which should always be the first port of call). If all of eBay’s avenues are exhausted, as it stands, I would presume the chances of success in U.K. court would be realistic.

Yeah for sure. He was persecuted because of his sexuality.
He was a complete genius and was a key factor in the intelligence war, which he basically won for the allies.
His Ultra level intercepts literally saved thousands of lives, and affected all theaters of war from helping the convoys in the Atlantic to gathering intelligence on Rommel in the African deserts.
His contributions were uncalculable yet he was treated with such disdain. A sad chapter in history indeed.

This is an excellent topic for discussion. We must never forget our history, and the mistakes that were made, in the hopes it’s never repeated.
I agree with you completely @Foster88 about the Royal Mint honouring and commemorating Alan Turing. He played such a crucial role in the allied victory and made such a difference to the outcome of the war, and it’s not just the lives he saved while the battle was raging, it’s everyone else’s life that was saved after the war ended. My life, your life and countless others have been saved because of his contributions.
Churchills’ famous quote “never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few” is an apt statement which absolutely applies to Alan Turing, yet I could easily imagine that many younger people have never even heard his name, let alone understand how he affected the course of their lives by his actions during his own life. I wonder if it’s even taught in school’s? Does todays history lessons teach our children about him and his achievements?
Its for all of the above reasons, every reason mentioned by all who are included in this conversation, that he is remembered and immortalised on the new £50 note and the limited edition 50p piece. We all owe him a debt that can never be repaid.

This website is a very interesting read, despite its name, but having said that, I think I quite like the website name, radicalteatowel, how very British.
Anyway, aside from my digression, Alan Turing was, I feel, made an example of during 1950’s and his achievements should be recognised and thankfully they are.

    @dicker what’s 150lb in ‘new money’?
I’m a ‘millennial’ with an open mind. 😆
    Apparently, you’re a ‘Millennial’ if you’re born between 1980 - 1996.
I jest of course, I just wish this man could have known he’d be on the £50 note. I wish he’d have had the opportunity to live in a more accepting society.
I remember voting for him a few years ago when there was a poll of candidates for the £50 note. So kudos to The Royal Mint to commemorate him on the 50p also, nearly 70 years after his death.
He gave so much and got so little in return from the country he gave so much to.
Tragic really when you think of it. His sexuality became the focal point of his latter years (early 40’s) during the 1950’s after what ‘the establishment’ of the time did to him.
He gave so much to Britain and got so very little in return.
    Thankfully, times are changing.

Wow thats impressive, 23 years in the military. My dad also served and his claim to fame was that he was a guard on the Brandenberg Gate (probably spelt that wrong), and actually was posted as a guard over Hess, one of the Nazi war criminals.
I'm not interested in selling these medals anymore, the sentiment is far more valuable I think.
Congratulations for earning your own medals, I'm sure you've done extraordinary things to get them awarded to you. And i get the feeling you wouldn't want to sell yours either.
This has been very eye opening to learn so much in such a short space of time.
Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it.

No GNR means Gunner Gunner is the eviqulant rank  of private - so he was right at the bottom of the pile no where near a general. He basically was a driver gunner in the artillery. driver was his trade and GNR was his rank!

It is possible that he served in both World Wars, one of my great-great uncles fought in both wars.
You’ve got a lot of information to do further research there.
I’m still trying to track down my great- grandads WW1 medals but I doubt I’ll ever find them.

jackflash123 reacted to stefffana in 2022 Silver Britannia does not ping. Should I be worried?
Don't be stressed about some different pings on your coins. The ping's clarity and sound is depending of various factors: microscopic porosity of the metal, position of molecules and tensions in internal structure of the coin, diameter, thickness, etc.
If you have bought your coin from any UK dealer, you are in safe hands.
The ping test is probably the less accurate test when assessing a silver coin. You can double check your suspects giving them a bath in a glass of water, for specific gravity test. There are a lot of tutorials on YouTube, and you need only an accurate scale and some sewing cotton.
Do your tests and give us an update, please.🤗
P.S.: I have attached a short video (sorry for the poor quality of my camera), to hear a beautiful ping generated by a beautiful old coin, 10 dollars 1973 Canada. None of my pure silver 1oz coins are able to sing/ping better.😁
