billysilver reacted to ChrisSilver in ⚠️ Please be careful when trading - some basic checks you should do
Today we took a precautionary measure and banned an account that we believed could pose a risk to members. However, this does not mean that we will spot any suspicious accounts in the future. So please be careful when trading.
Members are reminded of their responsibility to do their own due diligence and the risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

You may wish to take note of the following when doing your due diligence and trading:
    - How long has the member been active on the forum for? There is likely less risk when trading with long standing members who have been on the forum for many years. (Anything less than 3+ years they are still relatively new)
    - How much trading feedback do they have, and is the trading feedback selling feedback? How long have they been selling on the forum for?
    - Their community reputation, is it high, have they been engaging in a lot of topics with a lot of posts?
    - The optional attached piece of paper with their forum username on, does it look authentic, please zoom in. For sellers it is also best to include 'The Silver Forum' on the piece of paper, so that it is an original written note for a sale on TSF and therefore not the same photos used from elsewhere on the internet. Although please bare in mind that it is also relatively easy to photoshop or forge onto a photo.
    - Do they have Premium Membership? If a member has Premium Membership it means that the forum should have the name and and address of the member*, or at least of the card owner. This gives us vital information to pass onto the police should it be a scam member and we are requested to pass on information. *Note that for some Premium Members TSF may not hold an address of, such an example may include but may not be limited to a situation where: a gift membership was purchased for a member and they have not reached the renewal date or added an address to their account. For every member who has purchased Premium Membership themselves with a card or renewed; we should hold an address of the member, or at least of the card owner.

    - Be wary of someone asking you to send the payment to a 3rd party. Having several successful deals with a member who then subsequently asks you to send money elsewhere to a different bank account (such as a bank account of a friend) this time should be seen as a red flag. If a member is selling on behalf of a 3rd party make sure they have the items in hand, and you are sending to the bank account of the member who listed these items for sale on TSF.

    - Be extra careful when dealing in large amounts of money, several previous successful trades is no indication that a future deal with the same member will be 100% without problems.
    - If anything does not feel right, or there is anything that causes doubt, do not go through with a trade.

Some members exclusively only buy from and sell to, long standing Premium Members.

We also suggest for members to use tracked shipping, or ideally a form of insured shipping, this is useful for members of both sides of the trade.
Also, please be polite to new members listing items for sale. Everyone was a new member at one stage, and new members may need some time to build up a trading history on the forum. Note that statistically a new member listing an item for sale is more likely a genuine member than not. But please be careful when trading and report any suspicious activity immediately by using the report feature.

Disclaimer: The suggestions if implemented do not change the Forum's Term’s & Conditions in regards to member's risk of trading. Please check section 7.4. Risk of trading of the forum’s rules.

Hey @HarryK welcome to the community
You can't go wrong with 1oz Britannia's, especially the 2021 which is an absolutely stunning coin.
Everyone will have a different opinion, and the longer you stack the more you will come to realise what works best for yourself according to what you like and have learned along the way. There is no better way to gain knowledge than to do. As a newbie you begin stacking/collecting essentially blind, guided mainly by the youtube videos one watches at first, you will learn by doing. It's like anything else, success and knowledge are guaranteed when you take action.
The best action you have taken so far is to have made your way here to The Silver Forum! 👏
You will find the best deals in the forum Buy & Sell Trade Section and if you have a premium membership you will have access to the best deals available anywhere, you can view the benefits of premium membership here  One of my favourite benefits is seeing premium listings 3 days earlier than non-premium members, this is how you get the cheapest prices! 💰 The best deals are always gone in minutes!
The Britannia 1oz .999 Fine Silver bullion coins 2013-2021 are a solid piece of silver to stack, especially when you are a U.K Citizen. They are highly recognizable, one of the top bullion coins, easy to buy and sell and the 2021 in particular is very secure and beautiful, I will have some listed tomorrow if you are interested! The Britannia has to be the number one coin for British stackers and top 3 for Worldwide. Britannia's for Brits are capital gains tax exempt, which is useful. In my opinion, the best 1oz coin to stack in The U.K. Build a 2021 Britannia foundation upon which you can grow your stack and your setting yourself off to a good start.
The 2oz Greyhound's are a good coin to stack. They are the last in the silver bullion Queen's Beasts series, 2oz is a great weight and size of coin, capital gains tax exempt, desirable to sell in the future for completion of Queen's Beasts series, maybe a good coin you can sit on if bought in volume. One con is that sets will most likely pull you in and you would personally have to backdate the set if you wanted to collect the Queen's Beasts for yourself, which will cost more because of the premium on the older coins in the series, this is a minor and possibly insignificant problem though. The Queen's Beasts series is known well outside of U.K, it's an excellent series, greyhound is the last and is easy to sell now and in the future if you want to liquidate.
The 10oz are probably less liquid but the 10 oz White Lion is part of The Queen's Beasts series so valuable as coins required for a set that others need to complete, the run is not over and you will be able to acquire the later 10oz silver Queen's Beasts without a premium that you would pay further down the line as the set progresses if you chose to collect The Queen's Beasts set in 10oz .999 Silver.
    Silver is silver.
No matter the weight or the design it has an inherent value, whatever silver you purchase you will always be able to sell or stack as a store of wealth, for a Brit, you can't go wrong with the coins you have chosen. Spend some time in the forum, get to know some members, complete a few trades, get a premium membership for the best deals and as you stack your silver, if you need to buy or sell, you will always be guaranteed a trade here no matter what silver you stack.
Best wishes to you and your stack to be!

No conditions whatsoever, it's common sense that price relative to other volumes of the same quantity available from trusted sources would factor into selling, as does attitude and awareness. Especially attitude. Trust isn't automatically given, it's earned. Reputation is built. These are the "conditions" that aid selling anything and they are not exclusive to selling silver, it applies to the art of selling in general.
The Silver Forum provides the opportunity to develop reputation and trust, anybody can take the opportunity and sell successfully.
Price competitively, be clear in your listings, be kind and communicative and build reputation and standing and you will succeed at selling, completing sales is not a given just by being here and listing something. Nothing is a given like that in selling anywhere. You have to work it. If one expects to sell just because they list an item but fail, then one needs to identify possible reasons the listing is not successful. Adjust price, adjust quantity, offer a deal better than others, state you would be willing to use an intermediary service for selling a large quantity of silver if you have no rep and expect buyer's to send you hundreds of pounds for something with no real security other than reputation to rely on. There are a million things one can do to make a sale happen. It's essential one is objective and not emotional about it.
I stand by my statement of "Whatever silver you purchase you will be able to sell because silver has inherent value" because this statement is true and is not with conditions, it may only be perceived as having conditions if one assumes that selling something is as simple as listing it then people buy it, no, it takes work, reputation and a good attitude.

Bought a few new 1oz Britannia's because they are stunning and well it was the patriotic thing to do 😁
The more you purchase the cheaper they are. In the meantime I'm slowly educating myself by comparing prices lurking here and using Google to  check any terminology I don't understand.
    Good luck!

Billy silver have a great explanation above but if I can chime in on some things I found when I started stacking earlier on last year.
I think you need to decide are you a stacker, a collector or both. They are different in my opinion.
    STACKING
Don't buy single coins that have high postage cost as it drives your £ per oz cost real high, I spent +50gbp for two 1 oz silver bars. I got a much better price buying a tube of Britannias. It sure does cost a lot more immediately but long term they ended up cheaper than the first two bars per oz because I could disperse the cost of postage. Try keep your costs as low as you can so if you can, buy as much as you can at once, even if it means waiting a while till you have an extra few quid to buy bigger.
For collecting buy for fun and what you like! I absolutely love the Queens beast set so am buying the 2oz rounds, they have a high premium but it's for collecting so I'm not trying to keep costs to bottom dollar.

Please feel free to copy the above template example and to use for your listings if it helps  Please just edit out the sample text above for your own applicable text.

The above is just an option to help and you are free to write your listings how you prefer. If popular may look at an option of pre-filling out trade listings with the above automatically, but again this would just be to help and would be optional for the seller to use. Though it may be beneficial to standardise listings and easier for buyers to see the key info  I will start a topic in the Platinum Lounge to discuss this.

Members are reminded about the forum's pre-existing rules on Affiliate links.
    https://www.thesilverforum.com/guidelines/

I myself have refrained from using affiliate links on the forum, even though either myself or the forum could have profited significantly from sharing and advertising affiliate links. The reason for this is that I am trying to keep TSF free from spam, I also do not want to share links even though I could get a commission for doing so, as this is not the sort of place that I want TSF to become. (Though I reserve the right for TSF to use affiliate links in the future should we decide to do so. This has always been the case, however to this date we have not posted any affiliate links. If at such point we decided to do so, this would be done very sparingly and any affiliation would always be fully disclosed and transparent, so members are aware.) We hope that there is not ever the need to do this and that TSF can one day eventually be self sufficient from Premium Membership subscriptions and sponsored advertising alone.

I would however ask members to not share affiliate links, or to advertise members to message them for an affiliate link, as per the forum rules. We work hard to try to attract dealers to the forum, and TSF's advertising rates are extremely low, the majority of support for TSF comes from members choosing to purchase Premium Membership. If dealers could just get free advertising via affiliate links, then they would not join the forum or pay for advertising on the forum.

We have even discussed in the past the possibility of a special section for Premium Members to share affiliate links, but we had decided against this as we felt it would soon be full of members spamming the forum. In isolation a single affiliate link might seem OK, but if several hundred or even thousands of members started to post their affiliate links on the forum, it would soon be full of spam and this likely would put a lot of members off from viewing the forum. This would ultimately be harmful for the forum as well as all of the members of the forum who rely on TSF to be successful.

Please do not post affiliate links. All of the forum's rules are designed to benefit the community and for the future success and growth of the forum. At TSF we make decisions that are beneficial to the community and not for profit (hence why I have not posted affiliate links myself, and why we have maintained a completely free membership option)

Many thanks for all of the Premium Membership who support TSF and thank you to all members for following the forum's rules.

billysilver reacted to ChrisSilver in No UK import VAT on Investment gold coins (VAT Notice 701/21A) from the EU
This post is designed to help those members in the UK who are buying gold from other members, either importing from the EU to the UK or from outside the EU to the UK

There are a lot of gold coins that are considered investment gold and therefore VAT exempt. There may therefore be opportunities for UK members to buy from the EU or other markets.

Using a Sovereign as an example, our understanding of the definition "is of a description of coin that is normally sold at a price that does not exceed 180% of the open market value of the gold contained in the coin" from information taken from UK dealers is that any sovereign, even those that sell for 10's of thousands of pounds do not attract any import VAT as a sovereign in general sells for not more than 180% of the spot price of gold.

The full information on what gold coins and type of other investment gold except can be found from the following link:

    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/investment-gold-coins-and-vat-notice-70121a

Please also note that members may have experienced VAT incorrectly being added to gold imports into the UK, due to the description used by the sender. If VAT is incorrectly added you can usually claim back the full VAT (I have done this myself) however the courier admin charge (around £8 Royal Mail, and around £11 for other couriers like UPS, is not always claimable back, this depends on the reason why the incorrect VAT was applied)

This post is correct as far as our knowledge at the time of writing. It should not be constituted as legal or tax advise, members have the responsibility to do their own research and speak with any necessary advisers. TSF can not be held liable for any incorrect VAT that is applied by HMRC or any other import or taxes that are charged due to any purchases by members whatsoever.

Please check the government website, or start a topic in the discussion area of the forum if you would like to ask members questions and hopefully the TSF community can help. There are likely a lot of members who have experience of buying gold from abroad and can help

Items are listed in the regions they are located in. So UK members wishing to see items available internationally please see some of the below sections:
