I suppose its just the buzz of possessing something so rare, that you know only a handful of other people may own one. Its mainly the JM and Englehard bars that collectors seem to go for and if you check out Allengelhard, they publish some of the prices achieved, usually on the wellknown internet auction site, and these can hit 4 figures. Many deals are done between collectors and prices are seldom revealed.I remember 20 years ago when London Engelhard Letter prefix 1kg bars would only sell for just over spot. Now,some of the rarer letter prefixes will make double to treble spot.

Sold for a little less than price shown to a Canadian collector. One of the rarest JM 1oz bars in existence and should show on Allengelhard shortly.

I recently noticed that the Royal Mint were describing their "Diamonds are Forever" Bars as "Sean Connery's last Film outing as 007". As the film premiered in 1971 and Sean Connery re-appeared in 1983 as 007 in Never Say Never Again,I duly notified them of their ERROR and politely suggested they might "reward" me with just a silver 1oz Diamonds are Forever bar as it seemed quite a "Glaring" mistake on their part. They duly thanked me but said they would decline my "Reward" request.I do feel slightly miffed and why did I bother, but nevertheless wished to air this to forum members. Was my request unjustified?

Hi,The Royal Mint,IMO,should have carried out proper research in the first place so that the information was accurate to start with, therefore not in need of rectification. They undoubtedly have researchers paid to do this, not a  pensioner like myself who bothers to take the time to correct them.I don't think a £27 silver bar would necessarily cripple their annual profit and loss account.I didn't ask for a gold one.
