Hi Guys, new to the forum and Gold in general. On the face of it, this seems like a great deal? Any thoughts on why it might not be? Thanks!

No reason for it not to be a decent deal, provided you’re looking to buy at current prices. Gold under spot is always a win. Check the forum sales page (would need a membership, sign up for the £1 trial membership and you’ll see all deals immediately) also as there was at least one sovereign under spot in the u graded section today

I might also be that when you put it in your basket and pay for it, he will cancel the sale and ask you for your details to pay back into your account.

It happened to me recently with him.  Spent over £3k , money  was returned and next thing all the prices were increased by a great amount.

I told him that what he did was very unprofessional.

All true what I wrote and even had a discussion with another member about this at the time.   It is just pure greed. The coins were listed at said price for over three months,  gold rises and suddenly he is not happy to accept the prices that he had listed on his site.   If he can not be bothered to update his site, that is his problem and should not be the customer.

I had exactly the same experience with him very recently. I received a brusque and graceless refund email from him, including an unpleasant and gratuitous warning not to try the same thing again. I am sure that he had purchased the coin that I 'bought' when gold was £1300 or less, not the £1850 at which he could have sold it.

Incidentally, he has devised a new web site which is much more difficult to to navigate if you wish to browse what he has to offer, which I no longer do; he has lost a good customer in me.

I tried to purchase from his website. I have never seen him advertise on the forum, but I could have missed something.

No Kidding. No surprise there

I think he also sells on eBay and Facebook.

I have only previously bought off him from his site. The old site had his name and mobile number on the 1st page. The updated site is difficult to get the owners detail.

That set was £2800 and there was also a 9 coin half sovereign set that was about £200 per coin and now that has been raised to £2149.

His bullion sovereign have been raised to £479 and that is what he will change that 7 coin sovereign set to if one puts it in the basket and gives him a heads up notice.

I messaged him a few weeks back and said ''is it now safe to buy off your site of will you cancel any deal again''    Got no reply

He has two proof half sovereign that I was after from my wanted list.  When I enquired the very next day the price went up.

This company( I use that term lightly) has been going for a number of years in various guises & is a scam, often they don't have the coins & as some of you have noticed some coins are way under what the should be or way over.

I  can't be bothered to go into details I had some contact with them or a variation of them 10/11 years ago & after some due diligence concluded they are idiots.

I've nothing more to add,my advice would be don't engage with them at all.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I would not agree with this '' is a scam'' . I have bought from him on quite a few occasions and I know others have also done.

When coins are under priced it is more likely that he is too lazy to update the site frequently.  My VIEW is , he has become GREEDY.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Feels like a bit of a risky first deal for me, as it doesn’t sound like he has the best reputation. Think I’ll keep looking

Take up the £1 trial membership offer on here, then hit the UK ungraded section, you will find some bargains from reputable sellers ( you can easily check their feedback)

Yes, absolutely re. allgoldcoins. Entirely reputable and with a very informative and helpful website about the history and mintages of sovereigns. Their prices will not be the  cheapest by any means, but I would not hesitate to buy from them if I had the necessary funds. As it is, I have purchased only two boxes for sovereigns from them. ( I write disinterestedly; I have no connection with the company.)

I’ve made several gold purchases in the past from Mark Osborne who runs the ukgoldcoins website. The last item being the matte quintuple Memorial sovereign upon release, so I (rightly or wrongly) assumed at the time that he was an official RM distributor.

I don’t doubt the underhand experiences suffered by a couple of the posters above, but I can say that he provided me with a very good service. That’s not to say I wouldn’t approach buying from him with caution if there’s a next time though.

Own it and Love it.

(With thanks to 9x883 for the suggestion)

Any " company "that do not honour a purchase have your name and address at no cost to themselves. Information that could be priceless to some.  Any such people need naming and avoiding at all costs.
