Which Sovs to sell

I appear to have lost a battle with my wife and we will be going ahead with some unplanned building work. As such, I need to move some Sovs on to pay for it all (around 40 if I source all the cash from gold sales). Any ideas on which are best to move at the moment. Have 4 sets of Gillicks plus a tube of memorials, jubilee, 2002’s, Coronation, plus shields and young Vics. Also got a load of halves (shields and special years). Whilst reluctant to sell and try to find the money elsewhere, I figure it’d be a good opportunity to see how it goes shifting some of the stack. Thinking a couple of sets of Gillicks (try to sell in full sets) but not sure after that so interested in peoples thoughts. Thanks all

Personally from what I've seen of your journey, you like your older stuff shields/Gillicks etc, for this reason I'd go with the newer stuff, memorials/coronations, reason being they will most likely be popping up for the next couple years and easily replaced as and when.

Seriously though, if I were you, I'd pick out the duplicate dates and ones of lesser condition. That would see 1-2 Gillick sets go and some other stuff.

@James32 recently got me into shield halves. As long as they're decently priced! I got no ammo right now so wouldn't be able to buy anyways!

If I were you I'd sell what you like the least, or dislike the most. Tends to me the move for me when I decide to shift things from my personal stack.

Go through all sets, keep the best quality and if you still want to keep some of the newer ones get rid of the worst quality ones but spread it out over so you at least get to keep a good mix.

I'm not sure whether selling full sets will actually get you a net benefit apart from maybe having to do fewer separate shipments, although you might get some mileage with that elsewhere (e.g. FB).  There are a lot more people who will buy some individual sovs, and it's not a given that you'd be able to charge extra for sets.  Gillicks aren't uncommon enough that it's hard to build a date run.

I suggest you sell a mixture, and don't sell it all at once, maybe in 3 or 4 batches.  Depending on how long the building project takes, it may not be necessary to sell it all up front either.

From a market perspective, memorial and coronation sovereigns are not selling very high, and Atkinsons have platinum's in stock for £390 so you would need to beat that price
Gillicks always sell well and from what you listed seem the natural choice
Young Heads sell well always, though the premium on common bullion, especially shields , is as low as it has been for a long time, variants and rare's still preforming well though

You forget to mention the graded I know you have  special years are doing OK, though the memorials are tanking and the coronations are below rrp unless PF70

Bad time to sell at the moment though as its a race to the bottom for premiums with too many sellers and not enough buyers on most platforms.

I would sell the Gillicks and not as full sets as you will not get the premium there.  The 59 and 57 you will always get over £400 and the rest in this market, you be looking at £390.  When the times come, they can all be very easy to replace.  Keep one set which is the best of each coin.

I would keep the modern ones personally, jubillee, memorial, coronation are pretty significant coins and being new will be shiny and nice.

 That said I think you should sell the jubillee, memorial and coronation si.ply because I'd like to buy them.

After all money and investment is there to make our lives easier , I’m sure you won’t regret selling your coins when you turn your house into a more beautiful and comfortable place to enjoy with your family everyday .

I would sell the modern stuff .

Ended up going with Gillicks and 2002’s. The 02’s went quickly as did half the Gillicks. Would’ve rathered offload modern coins but right at the wrong time memorials/coronations became well priced at dealers so switched tack

100% this. It’s been good for me to sell a few coins. Was always meant to serve two purposes. Long term hold being one. Liquid bank account being the other.
