Emergency stash.

Recommended Posts

I'll be informing those members of my family who get their hands on my stash, the majority of which is still on the wish list, that as it states 999 on the various metals, they're only to be cashed in an emergency.

They'll be getting a long winded written ramble with instructions too.

Anyone want to help me with an instruction booklet?

Very simple. Tell them to sign up to TSF and they will be offered the best price by members.

Good call.

I'll have to get some info to my other half at some point

Good question @Nik

'By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail' - Ben Franklin, maybe.

There is no perfect solution, it's what works best for you and your situation. But:

Become a premium member, it will reap great rewards.

Prepare a spreadsheet itemising what you have and how much you paid for it. This will aid in mitigating any losses.

Ideally, sell on here to achieve the best prices. Your heirs won't get ripped off here, the forum members wouldn't allow it.

This is what I've done and all the info is in an envelope in my desk, which includes

The forum website and log in instructions. I've added a few user names of those I trust the most.

This will be best and most profitable method but not the easiest, so I've added the contact details of HGM, Sharps Pixley, Atkinsons and Chards. My wife may just want to liquidate in one go, so the option is there. She should achieve 'around spot' and quick payment. If CGT will a problem for you, consider/discuss it before it bites you in the arse.

I used to keep all my spreadsheets on Dropbox but after a chat with @HillWalkerDundee, I keep it on a memory card now, which is easy for my wife to find. I use 'wife' but you can choose who you like 😎

CGT is one of the important facts I need to discuss with them.  That's the reason I'm thinking about concentrating most on legal tender coins.

I do like hand poured bars though, so will probably chuck in a few of those, in manageable sizes for the heirs.

Thank you.

Super advice here from @Roy

I agree about keeping a spreadsheet on a USB stick. USB’s are surprisingly hardy and fairly difficult to damage so should be safe.

One thing to watch for is SD boxes.   Should you be called by the good Lord and you are the only signatory on the SD box, access may be tricky and probate dependent - this may cause other issues depending on your strategy. If you catch my drift….

I wasn't overly worried about my metals as assumed it was obvious what to do. I have a few pieces of art and a few collectables that need strict instructions and have not done anything about it yet. I also have a fair bit of crypto but let's face it that's as good as gone if I cark it, pointless explaining what to do with it when I hardly understand myself.

But will try and draught something up, my metals are mostly standard, nothing ot of the ordinary.

Good point and a schoolboy error on my part. As sole signatory, only I can access my SD box after biometrics.

I should have taken my wife with me when I signed up. I spoke with the company about this and, although it's not the end of the world, there will be hoops to jump through.

At least my wife will know of its existence and location and will have access to the keys.

Something to bear in mind if you choose to store your PMs in a private vault.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

I'm playing it safe.  My family would likely not wash their hands and spread curry sauce and fingerprints all over the shiny.  Dirty hands means lower value, possibly.

Don’t forget to be super clear on how rare your coins are (if they are).

Take a very rare Sov that might realise 10k to some dealers and they will give you spot plus a bit.  Not all but some.

This is where good Books and Records are key.

This is very good advice from @Roy

One sentence that stood out to me from your advice was this.

Ideally, sell on here to achieve the best prices. Your heirs won't get ripped off here, the forum members wouldn't allow it.

That is what being part of a ‘community’ albeit online is all about. If and this is, hopefully not for a long time, one of us passes and a spouse or significant other is looking to sell a collection, I have faith that this forum will do right by them.
