Buying from a Bullion Shop

Recommended Posts

Hi All has anyone recently bought any bullion with Atkinsons in the UK?

They seem to have decent reviews but they all from a few years ago and I just wanted to know if they are still good to buy from?

Also do bullion shops try a match prices?

thanks for any info.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :)

Your question would get more visibility in the general precious metals. To answer it atkinsons is pretty well trusted amongst the forum and I have bought a lot of bullion through them too.

I personally have not heard of price matching bullion yet. Dealers prices are usually tracked with spot and a slight premium depending on metal weight (bigger coins have less premium).

You can compare different sites to see what’s better. You could also get a premium membership to this forum and use the compare tool that shows most dealers, it helps this forum and you can also see new deals on the buy and sell section.

No problems buying from Atkinsons.
Generally hard to find a dealer with lower prices but this can change suddenly so always worth comparing against the others.
My last new sovereigns were bought cheaper from another dealer based in London but splitting hairs.

Agree - Compare, Compare, Compare. But sometimes if you've had a good experience then nothing wrong with staying with a favoured dealer if there is just a couple of £ in it. Check out a few when you are ready to pull the trigger.

The best dealers now include price comparisons on their popular bullion product pages, as for example:

Some dealers appear to tweak their prices, so that their single piece price is about 50p cheaper than @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer, after postage, probably because most comparison sites/pages show single piece pricing by default.

Dealers who feature so called "free postage" usually work out more expensive for any quantity over 1.

A few thoughts from me….

I would upgrade your membership to benefit from from the comparison tool on this site.

If you are after bullion and are flexible with what you purchase I would start with the forum and then look at dealers.

Personally, I don’t go with the cheapest just to save a couple of quid, customer service / support is just as important for me.

I was thinking of aiming for a monster box of Brits that's all so I thought the grade would be new 2021 ones for each shop.

If you are looking at a silver Monsterbox, you will be paying a LOT of VAT assuming you are in the U.K.

You might want to look at gold instead - many many threads on this.

Yep think I've bought 10+ oz off them in the last 6 months

Royal mint. are expensive

Bullion by post. have good deals every now and then

Ats. Managed to get me specific coins I was after. Took them a few days but given the request 👌

Atkinson. Are cheap if your quick off the mark as stock doesn't hang around for long

Bullion now are good if your after something from auz and they'll post worldwide

With UK VAT adding 20% I would need to believe in a meteoric price rise in the metal before parting with that amount of cash.
If investing in PM and you have that to spend, definitely give thought to gold as suggested earlier.

I've bought from Atkinsons a few times without any problems, also Bullionbypost...The advice above is good, compare before you buy. Chards is excellent  especially their customer service.

Regards.
