Saw the Tudor Beasts thread the other day. I thought this might be a good idea. @ChrisSilver can we have a new photos only thread please?
Hopefully I'm not the only one doing this series.

Arganto reacted to Silverlocks in Gazette Proclamation - One Penny Silver Coin
Back in the middle ages, silver pennies were actually circulated currency.  Currency was based on the value of the metal and was generally based on a silver standard in Europe (as opposed to a gold standard or fiat currency).  An English silver penny of the era weighed about 1.5g.  A groat (essentially the predecessor of the shilling) weighed about 6g and was worth 4 pennies.
The base 12 currency with copper pennies (base metal) and silver 3d, 6d and shilling coins didn't come about until quite a bit later.

Arganto reacted to SilverAngel in 30g The Silver Forum Rounds 2023 - Official Release - Ballot entry now closed
Please note, the ballot entry is now closed and names have been randomly selected.  You will be contacted this week if your name has been picked.  Thank you everyone your support has been amazing.

    Hello Folks,
We are very proud to launch our first official TSF round in conjunction with @ChrisSilver and would like to extend our thanks to him for asking us to do this.
There were 50 of these rounds available and the first 25 have been advertised and sold within the Platinum Lounge to all Platinum Plus and Premium members first.  The remaining 25 will be sold via a ballot as we anticipate demand to exceed the amount available.  If you want to secure a round the only way to get one is to comment on this thread or to private message me to get your name on the waiting list if you want a chance to own one.  If you are a Platinum Plus, Platinum Premium member Business Platinum as well as Official Sponsors and Moderators and want one, please message me as there are still a couple left in the allocation. If unsold these will go into the ballot.  ***Please note this Platinum allocation has now all sold***
Deadline to Secure a TSF round
We will keep this thread open for two weeks and the closing day will be 12 o'clock midday Monday 30th October.  We will then contact people over the following few days to collect payment and distribute the rounds.
    Why buy one?
The Silver Forum will receive some of the proceeds of these rounds and this is a great way of supporting the wonderful community we have here, and sales of the round help with the costs of keeping the Forum up and running for us all.  These pieces are all hand poured and lasered by us.  Each one will be a minimum of 30g though many may be slightly more as we overpour by a couple of grams to allow for sanding and polishing to achieve the beautiful mirror finish.  Each round will be in a square coin capsule and presented in one of our gift boxes and will have a Silver Angel Certificate of Authenticity.  If we are asked again by Chris to produce rounds again for next year we will of course offer the same numbers to each member.  Any support you can give us with a purchase will be appreciated.
    Hallmarking
As with every piece of Silver Angel hand poured silver it has been tested for purity and hallmarked by the Edinburgh Assay Office.  This is your guarantee of fineness and that it is indeed .999 fine silver and made by us.
    Pricing
The prices are as follows for the different membership levels.  These prices are all plus postage and details of the postage costs will be listed below.
    -  Standard / Free Forum Member £55
    - Silver Premium Member £50
    - Gold Premium Member £47.50
    - Platinum Premium Member £45

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope you show the Forum support with a purchase

    Hey all
As you may or may not be aware there was/is a situation where some members are out of pocket £100's to a rouge seller.
I am organising a donation pool to be split up evenly as a percentage of total losses per individual.
If you would like to dontate any silver to be forwarded onto the victims or donate cash to contribute please get in touch.
Please message me for the address to send any donations.
If you are one of the victims of this recent issue please get in touch via direct message and we can get all your details so we can get your "claim" processed and logged against this pool.
I know a lot of people here feel very strongly about the sense of community we all have and I know there are a lot that want to help in whatever small way they can.
    Thanks all

the "hammer" drops by my writing "SOLD".

Arganto got a reaction from Bruce06 in Matt Finish 1887 Sixpence?
I have no doubt this isn't anything special, its just odd that if it were merely a camera effect why would the seller lean on it as a selling pont (rhetorical as it's eBay)? I wonder if it really is matt to the eye what may have caused it.
Ill ask 'em for a laff

Yeah I see your point, but on the flip side if someone engaged regularly and for a couple of years, they are less likely to go awol, it's still possible but it would be the most elaborate scam going.
Truth is all roads lead to caution, only the buyers own due diligence can help the most, even then there's still risk.

    Allo mate.
Looking at your other thread I see you are looking for a handful of pre 20s coins.
Your options are probably here, eBay, auction house or visit a coin shop.
Here or eBay are your best bet as auctions and shops are too pricey. There are scammers on eBay but I've never been done when buying this type of silver. Here it has happened but word spreads like wildfire to the point of hunting them down and to be honest I can't see anyone risking it for a relatively small amount.
My preference is eBay but on because you can see the coin you are actually bidding on, on here they generally sell by the weight but occasionally you do see some.
Edit.... Just to clarify, I have never been scammed on here either.

You pay by sellers choice, will predominantly be either bank transfer or PayPal friends and family.
The feedback score is a tough one to be honest, there's a lot of great members on here who don't trade too much but are reliable, unfortunately they will have low feedback and in light of recent events, they will now be punished and assumed unreliable.
I could easily throw out a number but feedback only tells half the story, would be easier for me to say 'send me a message with a sellers name and I will say yes or no' I've dealt with 90% of the regulars on here and can either vouch or advise to stay clear.

I don't think there are/were any matte ones either.
EDIT: looking at the pictures of the coin in the link, that's just a normal currency sixpence of the withdrawn type, worth about £10 to no more than £15 maybe.  Plenty around in similar or better grade.
