The portrait is by Jody Clark so that explains the quality. It is such a nice coin in hand. I can’t wait to see what it is like as a 2oz coin. Unless, and this just occurred to me, the mint is mindful of the costs and will keep the Crown to a 1oz coin rather than 2oz? I say this because it’s a 2 coin set and the £s needed to buy the gold would be outrageous!! Much easier to keep the costs similar to previous releases........ I hate speculation and yet here I am.............

Afternoon! I am just wondering if we should compile a list of regular online auctions or other places where coins are on sale - such as fares or one-off meets. If this has already been done, we can ignore this thread but perhaps someone can add a link to the relevant thread (I could not see one!) Auctions: I regularly buy from Coin Cabinet and Coins of the Realm and I am aware of Sovereign Rareties. Are there others that people know about and are happy to share? Fares: I know of the London Bloomsbury fares. Are there others? Countrywide would be good as I can travel and would enjoy trips out and about! Online: I don’t use Facebook. I’m only on Twitter (work - non-coin - related) and Instagram is just for family stuff...maybe I need to get a Facebook account...is it worth it? Cheers!

Yes! That was one of the four I was selling! The others pulled their weight...phew...!! Anyway, someone got a bargain. Happy for them! I was able to get a coin today for a good amount less that I was ready to go to, so it’s pretty good to be honest. Swings and roundabouts as they say!!

Look at it like this - it went for £5 more than you bid, but had you placed more bids, so might the other person. You could have saved yourself a bit of money. Yes, it is annoying that the other person got the coin at a good price, but there will be more.

Depending on what you were looking for it was not too bad. I got one coin for a lot less that I thought it would sell for. Pretty happy. Also, four of my coins sold - three for profit and one at loss - overall I am up by a tidy amount. Happy.

£6k is a lot of money but it is still reasonable for the Una in a 70 grade. It was selling for £7k+ previously.

That is not odd at all. I know a few people who are bidding today who have not started yet. People who just want to bid live. Good luck on that one item!! We are not in competition as there are no sovereigns for me this time...just the commemorative stuff!

If anyone has sent back the 1/4oz QB Silver Proof set, please can you confirm the CoA? Like others, I am still waiting for my first set to arrive - I was told it was part of the second batch and should be sent out in August. I just want to take care that I am not taking delivery of a set that one of you have returned! I will of course check the set - I just want to have an idea of the CoA's too. Cheers!

The terms and conditions clearly stipulate that payment is due in 14 days. This is what is important here. The invoices do not reference a time period, they reference the terms and conditions. Legally and administratively nothing can happen until day 15 post issuance of the invoice. However, why anyone would not clear an invoice once received and wait until the last minute or even later is beyond me. Once you place a bid you are committing to buy and you should clear the payment at the earliest point.

You have 14 days to pay via Coin Cabinet. It was 21 days but they have recently amended and updated their terms and conditions. Section 8.2 sets out (and note the the following is an extract) that: 8.2. Notwithstanding the rights as set out under clause 12, should a Buyer fail to pay within 14 days after receiving an invoice, the Auctioneer reserves the right to take legal proceedings against the Buyer, as well as pass collection over to a debt collection agency. Thanks! Good luck to you too. I wonder what the best strategy for bidding is. I have marked some coins in the past for watching and waited till the live auction to bid. My view was that I really wanted the coins and so would not drive the price up. However on other occasions I have struggled to make the live auction and so placed my highest bid in the week before the auction. It is hit and miss for me. I find that when I bid live, I sometimes go a little higher than I would have liked but then I miss out on that opportunity to get a stunning coin that may not be offered again when I only bid in advance! Thoughts?

Anyone win anything! I bagged a couple of graded half sovereigns at very good prices. Haven’t received them yet (or notification of postage) which is unusual, but hopefully tomorrow!!

Anyone got bids in? I have bids on 10 items but already out bid on six of them and I cannot be going higher!! The remaining four are still quite a way behind my highest bids. I am guessing I will not get any given how recent auctions have gone but keeping fingers crossed!!

It could be worth a wee bit extra if you had a 003 or a 333. Would you rather have 007 on a Bond coin or 001 on a Bond coin? That’s just my view.

Some good movement in prices already and some bargains to be had, for sure (at this point!!). Will be interesting to see how the move to weekdays works. I have a feeling it will work out well. From my perspective a Tuesday is way better than a Sunday. I have a few items in this auction too, so do not be shy!!!

I agree with what the others have said. Plus, there is a market for curiosities like that. I would send it off for grading and ask NGC/PCGS to confirm the strike error on the label. People collect the strike errors and will sometimes pay a decent premium for them.......when you get lemons, make lemonade my friend. Welcome to the forum by the way. I think a letter would be good. They have customer care and surely the numbers of returns should speak for themselves and the letter would just confirm for them how bad this release has been? I haven’t received my 1/4oz set yet. I’m told it’s due in late August so sadly I cannot really share your sadness (yet)...

Fixed it for them: “What are Proof coins? Proof coins from any other Mint are the highest quality commemorative coins. Their sharpness, detail and finish are unrivalled, making them perfect for collectors looking for highest levels of craftsmanship and detail. Here at the Royal Mint, we try but we accept that sometimes we fail. The dies used to strike our Proof coins are hand-finished by Dave, our prison release apprentice, to ensure that some imperfections are removed. Blanks are forced into the coin press by screwdriver before being struck up to one time, at a lower speed and with less pressure than other finishes, to preserve the finer details of the design, but mainly so that Dave can keep up. After striking, each coin is briefly inspected for perfections by Sandra in accounts. Sandra can’t wear gloves as she has long glued on nails. Hence the odd finger print. The dies are then cleaned with hair between each coin to ensure that marks and perfections are caused during striking. As a result of Dave and Sandra’s efforts, no more than 4 Proof coins can be struck within an hour. Proof dies are also regularly damaged to maintain the low quality of the finish. Each Proof die will strike over fifteen coins before it has to be polished with the wire wool. Because of these efforts, we can only guarantee a 68 if you send off for grading. However, if you pay extra for conservation, they should be able to remove Sandra’s finger prints.”
