  1. Anyone returning their coins and having issues should direct the Royal Mint to their own website where they confirm: “What are Proof coins? Proof coins are the highest quality commemorative coins. Their sharpness, detail and finish are unrivalled, making them perfect for collectors looking for highest levels of craftsmanship and detail. The dies used to strike Proof coins are hand-finished to ensure that all imperfections are removed. Blanks are fed into the coin press by hand before being struck up to six times, at a lower speed and with less pressure than other finishes, to preserve the finer details of the design. After striking, each coin is inspected for imperfections. The dies are cleaned with air between each coin to ensure that no marks or imperfections are caused during striking. As a result of this extra care and attention, no more than 50 Proof coins can be struck within an hour. Proof dies are also regularly reworked to maintain the quality of the finish. Each Proof die may only strike a few hundred coins before it has to be repolished.” https://www.royalmint.com/discover/coin-collecting/striking-standards/
  2. I think the designer is clearly talented and obviously has a good eye, but to be fair the combination of the subject matter with the fact that she wasn’t hugely energetic about the product resulted in a poor design. Can anyone think of a better way to produce this product? It’s not like Winnie the Pooh or Mr Men etc (which are far simpler and probably easier to deal with/design). I honestly can’t think of a better design for this series myself. Part of me thinks it was too broad/complex a subject matter to manage.......I wonder what Jody Clark would have done. I don’t imagine it being better. Will be interesting to see future designs from her and look forward to maybe buying one! I’ve passed on the AIWL design. Just not for me.
  3. https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/alices-adventures-in-wonderland/meet-the-maker-ffion-gwillim/ Not on sale till August........
  4. I’ve just read the blog ‘meet the maker’ where there is a Q&A with the coin designer. She doesn’t appear too keen on the books...or at least her answer side steps the question: Q: Are you a fan of the books? A: “I was very aware of them and enjoyed learning and discovering more as part of the project.” Oh dear...
  5. There was initially a huge price difference when you commit to the two coin set. e.g. £650 for a single 1/4oz or £550 if you buy both......that has since been changed. The prices are all now consistent. Anyone manage to get one whilst the prices were incorrect!!?
  6. Oh! And for those that have asked in the past....I honestly have no clue what the issue with 69 was. Looking at them side by side it is next to impossible to see any issues...🤷🏻‍♂️
  7. The fact that their relationship with NGC ended so abruptly after only two releases (Mayflower and War/Peace) suggests that the view of the Mint on the quality of their coins is absolutely not the same as NGC. You will remember that they offered the PF70 on all those coins and in the end were unable to fully deliver (as can be seen from the NGC census). I was one of three who even received a PF69 (and following a complaint a PF70 too). I think they thought it was ok to do that. Of course in hindsight I am happy with it, as it is a specific rarety, but it does highlight an issue that they probably need to address.
  8. Sorry to read that Paulo. I know I have been joking about quality control too, but it’s just my way of coping. I would say you should give them a second chance. I imagine that a lot of people will be returning the sets from what I have read and it may spur them into better quality control delivery this time. There are after all only 300 of the sets and so it should not be difficult to sort out...
  9. I guess that makes sense. The coins may have issues but at least the get the postal addresses right? No one ever complains of never receiving their items.
  10. I was at the Mint a few days ago and someone took a picture of me outside their quality control office. I wanted to prove to everyone that it existed. I’ll upload it just now.....
  11. I bought the 2oz and the 1/4oz set. I have the 2oz and have already posted it to its lovely new owner. It was in beautiful condition. I will be keeping the 1/4oz set. My Account Manager said it would be with me in August as I was slow to order. All good. Please share CoA’s if you are returning that set so we can see if any get recycled!
  12. I am continuously staggered by the amount of coins I receive (and others also) with loose capsules. It’s possible that they shake free in the box on their travels but there should be a better way to package them if this is the case...bullion I can live with as I don’t really grade those but the proofs!!!!
  13. I would just send it back. You could try the ‘bellows’ but you don’t want to be accused by the mint of causing any damage yourself. Unlikely, but best to err on the side of caution.
  14. Mouse hairs from the falcon’s last dinner.
  15. Interesting/disappointing prices at recent auctions have led to this, I think. No flippers are interested. I got the 2oz silver as I like it and have the others. I didn’t get the 5oz this time. Nearly bought the art work, but I’m not sure where I would hang it and it’s not an investment piece so passed.
  16. I thought they had a special phone line for you, Batman?
  17. All now on sale - can't see another thread on this....... Anyone get anything?
  18. I was going to put an offer in until I read the description and saw that the chain isn’t included...
  19. Expecting a lot of nice coins on the today I received thread, today! My little 1830 half dime won’t be on display till next week as I am collecting it instead of having it delivered.
  20. They would not release them as individual coins, would they? That would be a bit awkward.............I guess there are no 2oz Silver Proofs from the initial launches......anything is possible......
