For me doubles are the best buy. The so called “perceived wisdom” is essentially do what everyone else is doing (buy singles). However the better value purchase is to buy doubles. My view is that doubles will appreciate better over time and I’m not one to buy the current trend, more look for the value proposition for the future. As said by others, you can appreciate the design much more on the doubles also and they generally are much rarer (lower mintage numbers).

1817Karl got a reaction from Muncle in 2014 Mule Sovereign - anyone know how many of these error coins were minted?
These are indeed error coins! They are found in Half, Full, Double and Quintuple types for 2014. The reverses are struck with Proof dies and the obverse Brilliant Uncirculated dies. They are found in single Brilliant Uncirculated presentation boxes and Proof Sets! I addressed these specific error coins with Gordon Summers - Chief Engraver at the Royal Mint and he recalls the issues they had in 2014 with these coins. He was Chief Engraver during this time period.

Brilliant Uncirculated coins don't have a true frosted finish...

I'd have to disagree here... They are either an error proof or error Brilliant Uncirculated coin, therefore a mule in any case. The Reverse is a proof finish and the Obverse is a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. Its debatable which error it is, but and error it is. Obviously in my humble opinion!
