  1. Hi Fenlander. I’m interested in the Robin Hood coin. It would be a gift for my adult son who is archery daft. Could you post better pics of that coin please? Thank you.

    SOTD sovereigns

Hi Jason. If you want to know more then go back to the 3rd post on page 1 of this topic. Richatthecroft has provided a photo of a page which lists them.

    SOTD sovereigns

A poor description nevertheless. No offence intended so thanks E for that. Indeed, your knowledge (particularly on the modern sovereign) has elevated you to coin Guru.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one. In my case it’s doing some business with Chards when I’m in NW England.

    And instead you chose Baldrick.

In all honesty I prefer to deliver my coins to the recipient by hand direct. I drive down to NW England to drop off my coins for grading with GoldDigger Dave and return to collect them. The one coin I’ve sold meant a drive to NE England when I sold a coin back privately to the person I’d originally bought it from several years earlier. Obvious this can’t continue forever more if I want to sell anything further afield. Hence my earlier question regarding the over inquisitive lady at the Post Office.

If only I had a gold coin the size of a steering wheel.

Apologies folks but I too would like to go slightly off topic regarding sending coins by special delivery. I’ve noticed a few times when stood in the queue at the Post Office that the lady behind the counter asks customers can you tell me what the package contains? I’d never dream of stating a gold coin for obvious reasons, but if you were confronted by the same question what answer would you give (apart from calling her a nosey cow)? Thank you.
  10. Not that I can currently afford a 2oz gold coin but I hope this design doesn’t devalue our 2017 quintuples - the proof being hard to source in particular. Hopefully the low mintage will not.
  11. I agree. Having compared both versions side by side the reverse of the BU/DPL indeed matches the proof. The obvious difference is one obverse is proof and the other is BU. My BU has recently achieved a MS70 DPL grading and should be on its way back to @GoldDiggerDave - a great result after his personal conservation on it. A great coin to own for the price as the front of the slab displays a reverse as good as the proof.
  12. 1,000 mintage for the BU/DPL and 750 mintage for the proof, though I’ve seen 749 mintage for the proof listed by some dealers in the past.
  13. Worth a Like for the opening sales pitch.
  14. Watch out Clive. His name isn’t Thomas. I’ve fell for that one in the past.
  15. It’s amazing where a free bus pass can get you these days 😏
  16. Well done to the rest of the members too for their coin donations to the cause. And hats off to the bidders as well.
  17. Likewise @stefffana. I’m sorry you had to make the decision to sell some coins to assist you with family funeral costs. You always come across as quite cheerful on the forum and I chuckle at some of your comments when I’ve finished wetting myself with laughter reading most of @James32’s comments. The doc tells me there’s no cure for that apparently unless I top him off. I’m sorry for your loss and please PM me with your bank details so I can match @Upsidedown’s thoughtful contribution too. Every bit hopefully helps.
  18. The proof quarter sovs only started in 2009 buddy.
  19. Were these coins AOOG Mr Touvex or just available on TSF? I know who you are and that you have a solid reputation on the one FB group I’m on. You’ll be busy packing and posting this lot off, so hopefully you’ll get back to me in your own time.
  20. Exercise is clearly bad for me. Went out for a 6 mile walk this evening, had a shower and a bite to eat and watched a recorded TV programme. Logged back onto the forum and all of these coins had come and gone. I’m not sure whether I would have bought anything but at least I could have seen the prices. Blinked and I missed everything. Well done Mr Touvex.
  21. My daughter used to collect Pokémon cards when she was a teenager but sold a lot of them on EBay several years ago. I’m thinking of tapping her knowledge and getting some advice about them next time she visits, thanks to my sudden unanticipated interest in this thread after only 5 minutes. She’s very savvy and owns 2 Harry Potter first edition books. Maybe I should take her to meet @GoldDiggerDavewhen I collect my next graded coin? She might end up owning my proof coins after all. On a more trivial Pokémon note, my brother’s professional mime skills got him the part of Mr Mime in a film called Detective Pikachu. He was covered in various cables which were used to create the Mr Mime digital character itself. I don’t think they used him as the voice-over in that film, but he’s been used in that capacity in another film before. He also assisted in the making of the first couple of Harry Potter films and my kids both got freebie Harry Potter Stunt Crew baseball caps from him. I think the baseball caps were quite rare at the time too.
  22. Holding on to your best coins is not a bad thing, so your plan is sound. As you’re listed as a stacker, should you need some cash in a hurry then you have the flexibility to sell off some of your bullion and keep the proofs perhaps. My itch was taking the plunge to buy my first ever gold coin 5 years ago. We’ve all faced the same predicament - and come back for more!
  23. Much obliged for that info Stuntman.
  24. Quintuples are certainly big coins which show all of the detail in larger format than smaller sovs (the Memorial sov design perhaps in particular). What I would say is that if you start collecting them then you’re entering more of a niche market should you ever want to sell. A lot of collectors maybe don’t have the funds to buy quintuples and stick to smaller versions, in particular the full £1 sovereign. You could argue that maybe the fractional sovs could become more popular than the full sov should the price of gold continue to rise historically and the full isn’t as affordable. A good compromise could be the double if the quintuple is out of your immediate price range. Being the second largest coin it could very well appeal to you. It’s a lot more affordable than the break the bank quintuple, yet shows larger detail than the smaller sovs.
  25. That was a very decent price. I don’t know the RM issue price for the raw Platinum Jubilee BU quintuple but Sovereign Rarities had an MS70 First Releases label one which was priced just the wrong side of £3K which I decided to buy last November. By then the RM was showing the raw version as sold out, but with a price of £2.9K. I assume the price had been bumped up since the issue date but £2.5K for your MS70 quintuple surely has to be hard to beat. So hats off to you.
