Of course, the cost of these coins will be much more than the value of the metal.  There are fixed costs, variable costs of this issue, a built in profit, etc.    It costs a lot to produce the coins.  In addition to costs for designing and engraving the coins, there are the supplies (cases, capsules, etc), marketing/advertising costs, administrative costs and salaries, etc.  if I like the coin and can afford the cost, I buy it.  Then again, I’m a collector and not a flipper.  I have never sold a coin, so I don’t view them as a quick profit.

I am fascinated by how this release has gone. The comments here and on Facebook both seemed to indicate it wasn't going to be as popular a release as previous ones in the series but I didn't imagine we'd get into the evening and still have sets available to purchase. I certainly agree with other comments that the per oz price is rather bonkers regardless of what size or metal you're looking at. I wonder if thats them thinking they can milk people for more because its a Great Engravers release or because the edge lettering incurred more work/costs. Either way I wonder what effect this lacklustre launch will have on any further coins in the series. Time will tell.
I'm glad it was easy to get the 2oz silver set and be able to keep the collection to date complete. I just hope they've done a good job with the minting of these as it will be super disapointing (especially given the price) to have to deal with any minting issues.

Being a bystander to this release completely. I will enjoy the next year to see how it progresses.
The design has grown on me over today.
I would like to get one of the 2oz gold at some stage.
Looks like I'll be playing hunt the bargain/desperate this coming year or two

Sounds like you've made the right choice. If you don't need to sell them at (presumably) a loss now you might as well hold on to them and hope they increase in value over time.

Ultimately impossible to say but it surely couldn't be a bad thing for the coin and those who manage to get them if the mintages are much lower. From my own observations what seems to make the key difference with coins in this series value wise is how widely available they become on the secondary market. The Una mostly disappeared into peoples collections with only a few examples bought and resold so its value went up and up and up to match the demand. With the 3Gs and GC releases the secondary market was flooded with them and they're still quite easy to get so the values are what they are. If the mintage hasn't dropped dramatically the same will happen with this coin as the last two releases. The rumours sound good to me though and it certainly could help get the series back on the right path if they pan out.

Yeah though thankfully they didn't pull anything like letting people who bought the gothic direct from them get refusal  or anything daft like that again. Personally I'm pretty burned out from this series after the last release. I said either in this thread or some other that I wish the gothic would have been the end of the series.. it just did so much damage to the series as a whole and I fear each subsequent release will only carry on causing damage to the series devaluing the other coins. For tomomrrows release I expect flippers will do ok short term but given how the last two releases have gone I'd be surprised if tomorrows release wasn't readily available in the not so distant future at less than issue price.
Who knows though? Perhaps they'll drop the mintages back down and the design will be one people have to have in their collections causing the series to be revived. Personally I'd bet for what I wrote above being more likely but we'll see.

I’m more surprised the RM hasn’t marketed it more. Maybe they’ve already reserved most for their Mint Marque customers.

A lot more relaxed than previous releases. I'll attempt to join the queue tomorrow but I won't worry if I get a bad place in it. I suspect in a few months - if not much sooner - the silvers will be selling for around issue price or very possibly less so one way or another my collection will carry on being complete.

I have decided that there is no rush, the proportion of my stack these coins represent is fairly small and I can sit on them to see how they perform for a few years, I don't intend to add graded coins in the future but it will be interesting to compare their performance, I guess none of us know what is really the best to hold as the reasons for doing so are very varied.

So I think I may have found (at least by percent of profit) the biggest rip off I've seen In this field.
I was trying to get some capsules for soverigns, ideally the royal mint ones. They sell them for 15.99 for a box of 20 which is fine but they were out of stock. After a bit of looking I found the London coin company had them on sale for 17.95, result, don't mind paying an extra 2 quid. However the listing didn't have a box size and I wanted to be sure it was the same size of box and I emailed them.
In the email I joked that I was checking the box size as I wanted to be sure I wasn't buying the world's most expensive capsule. Imagine my surprise when they wrote back to tell me that yes, in fact you are only getting 1 capsule for that price....but it is very good quality. 18 quid for a single capsule!!!! How many people order that assuming it must be a box for that price? I've never bought anything from LCC and I damn sure won't going forward.

Maybe you haven't had one come up at the right price or you keep missing out on or they're incredibly rare, maybe just saving up

I agree with what you said about the horrid release of the GC, this coin IMO is the best of the bunch the split launch was a joke.  The PC should be sold as a 2 coin set straight off the bat to stop the messing around trying to get the other coin especially if you bought them on the secondary market.
Mintage figures!!!!!!!!   this is the only thing that could put the coins back on track, they need to lower them dramatically to make them more exclusive, if they keep on wanging up the mintage like they are doing it will be the death-nail for the series.   We need to see circa 225-250 max for the 2oz golds anything more than 300 then I'm not touching them unless the coin really floats my boat.

I’m not sure where I got this from (consider it a rumour!), but the coins from the 2023 annual sets might show up as part of the definitive sets later in the year.
So we aren’t completely out of the woods yet.

The silver proof will be £85 and have a mintage of 4472, while the piedfort will be £135 and have a mintage of 1923.
That's not particularly interesting on its own, but it's probably good news for anyone who bought the 2023 silver proof annual sets (normal or piedfort), as the individual silver coins will only be available with colouring from what I can tell. That should give the non-coloured ones in the annual sets a much lower mintage than expected (650 and 400)?
