Same here. I use the Manchester branch and it has survived two world wars. Shame they only have two branches in Manchester/Leeds they could easily expand into other areas. My dad used them when he moved to Manchester in 1992 to initially store gold jewellery and subsequently when he passed away I inherited the contents and used them in addition to store my gold collection. As a family we have utilised this company to store our physical wealth for 31 years......

    Hi All
I suspect some of us have an SD box with Metrobank.
The Metrobank news over the last  two weeks coupled with their share price performance has been a bit worrying.
Today, I closed my SD box at Metrobank and moved to another provider as a precaution.  The gent in the branch said there had been quite a few people doing the same….

I use an independent company as I'm a paranoid android when it comes to banks and trusting them. Although the company I use only has two vaults (Manchester and Leeds). I use the Leeds one for convenience, but the Manchester branch has been going 100 years and have never had a break in which helps me sleep at night.

I would disagree on this one: why give them any reason, it is none of their business. This is not a question in good faith, so why give them the benefit of the doubt.
People have been asked to furnish the invoice of the builder - why start this slippery slope.
It is none of their business, full stop.
You give them an inch, they grab a mile..

    Hi and welcome on forum!🤗
    My advices are:
    1. Plan wisely your monthly budget for precious metals and don't go higher than you can afford.
    2. Try to have in your stack both metals, gold and silver, in approximately the same value. You don't know which one will perform better in next 20-30 years, but I think silver didn't shown the real potential yet.
    3. Try to be consistent with your purchases, month after month. Your stack of gold and silver will grow steady and healthy.
    4. Don't be afraid to buy today if you have money to spend. Even the spot look high today, I am sure will be higher after a number of years when you will decide to sell.
    5. Don't talk too much with your colleagues/friends/family members about your precious metals. Less people who know, less risk to be robbed.
    6. Don't buy at the beginnings high premium, numismatics, slabbed coins, etc. These requires plenty of knowledge and the market to sell them is very tight. After few years of stacking, you can slowly move little by little to collecting. Don't be afraid to ask on forum, there are plenty of good people who will give you friendly advice.
    7. The mistakes are expensive. Buy only from reputable dealers or from forum. On forum you can find good quality stuffs at the best prices. Upgrade your membership to at least Silver. You will have instantly access to see what people are selling. With £6/month membership you can save a lot of money buying from forum. Daily bargains are selling usually quick.
If you have any questions, just ask.
    Happy stacking!🤗

Don't listen to @Paul Silver is the best thing since slice bread. I had bought several thousand oz's of the stuff starting stacking it in 2018. I was buying
    1 oz silver Maple Leaf 2016 SUPERMAN 15.64 €
    2 oz silver QUEEN'S BEAST 35.18 €
    10 oz silver Queen's Beasts 242.40 €
Perth Mint 1 oz silver 2017 MARVEL SPIDERMAN 21.38 €
From Goldsilver.be, the European Mint and group orders on the forum.
Obviously before VAT on Silver and I have sold my entire stack with the exception 60 oz when GameStop reddit community moved over to the silver short squeeze. People waiting for Silver to hit $50 oz I can recall certain coins (1oz Marvel Spiderman) sold for £70. In hindsight pure dumb luck and good timing when stacking Silver and my decision to exit my position and fully transition it into Gold.
Unless have a time machine to go back to 2018 @Paul is right, stack Gold, buy Silver as a hobby.

I have given up on ever in my lifetime seeing a Gold backed major reserve currency. The government can easily steal via a hidden stealth tax known as inflation why would they want to ever stop this scheme. Taxation without representation many years ago in 1775 after refusing to hear of the plight and concerns of the colonist due to unfair taxation from King George III they formed the Continental Army. Does not matter where you are in the world everyone has to pay this unfair stealth tax for the rest of your life....... Unless @JohnA1 steps up to the plate and form the new Continental Army...

Abyss reacted to Paul in All I want for Christmas is . . . . . . . . ? 1oz of GOLD? a sovereign??? let's get it and all be part of the journey
As we begin to approach the Christmas season, ive had a little bit of a fun idea which could be good to do as a forum collective and enjoy the journey together over the next year
As stackers we all want more gold but near all time high price, cost of living, inflation, interest rates it is hard to do for some in one purchase
My idea is we ALL collectively choose a purchase for December 1st 2024 and save towards it enjoying the journey
This can be whatever you want to allow for your own budget, big of small.
    A sovereign, a 1/2 oz gold, a 1oz Britannia, a 12.5kg "good-delivery" bar in @James32case

Now what we collectively put our savings away in daily, weekly, or monthly amounts and we all achieve our goals.  Whatever works best for you
Pop cash in a tamper proof pot. Sort a standing order to a savings account?

    What will it cost ?
    So based on todays prices
    1oz gold Britannia = £1650 1 full sovereign = £385 x5 sovereigns = £1925 This works out as follows
    Daily cost:
    1oz gold Britannia = £1650 / 365 days =  £4.52 per day 1 full sovereign = £385 / 365 days = £1.05 per day  x5 sovereigns = £1925 / 365 days = £5.27 a day  Weekly cost:
    1oz gold Britannia = £1650 / 52 weeks =  £31.73 per week 1 full sovereign = £385 / 365 days = £7.40 per week x5 sovereigns = £1925 / 365 days = £37.07 per week  Monthly cost:
    1oz gold Britannia = £1650 / 12 months  =  £137.50 per month 1 full sovereign = £385 / 12 months = £32.08 per month x5 sovereigns = £1925 / 12 months = £160.41 per month
So with those figures broken down who is in to commit to this ?   In small manageable chunks it doesn't look so bad does it and achievable?
Now join us, the more the merrier.
Be nice to enjoy the year journey together
Find a pound in the street add it to your pot. Share it here Have a football bet come in add it to you pot.  Share it here Skip your Starbucks going to work add it to your pot. Share it here Give up cigarettes, at the same time Put your 20fags into your pot. Share it here  Make your work lunch at home and save on your pret a manger sandwich at lunch. Add it to your pot. But lets not forgot that it is always fun to try and buy gold while it is on a downward price spiral and time the markets (not advisable it is always better to average into long term position) but you certainly get a ego boost if you can get right. Right now spreads from Chards has the lowest premium on a newly released 1 oz Gold Britannia 2.5% above spot (not for 100 oz, but a single oz) I have ever seen in my lifetime. This should tell you that dealers having to reduce premiums to either compete or because demand is drying up due to higher prices. I am predicting Gold price heading towards $1600 oz once Hamas defeated, F16's delivered and more Ukraine territory liberated and inflation brought closer 2% most likely due to sustained higher interest rate plus a recession. Yes Gold long term hedge against inflation but why would I want to buy the metal after it has spiked $200 due to geopolitical reason I personally would rather wait and see what happens to price after returning to more normal market conditions.
All because I believe short term Gold headed lower does not imply I would be willing to sell any of my physical Gold, just to much risk at the present moment in time in the world, US elections 2024, possible further bank failures....

Technical analysis has lot of negative associations. I could add hundreds of indicators to the charts and come into state of paralysis by analysis. You need devote time energy, effort, dedication into the study of Technical Analysis before dismissing it as voodoo science. I use Technical Analysis to avoid the following situation happening and keep my  emotional state in check.

But as with everything in life the more you study/practice the more proficient you become.

After QB stack was completed I did pause gold purchases.

Cannot be too harsh on anyone sold their Gold in the past our education systems does not teach about finance/money/investing/protecting wealth/central banking/fiat currencies/inflation/stock markets. IMHO depending on where in the business cycle you are their is a time to be more heavily invested in property/stocks/bonds/precarious metals/cash. On reflection I made the right call last year wanted to diversify and allocate percentage net worth into Gold/Silver but my mistake was the allocation was to small of a percentage. Last year when purchasing Gold I knew I eventually wanted a larger percentage of net worth into the metals but only purchased smaller percentage. Original poster maybe kicking themselves in the teeth sold their gold on reflection of current prices but by the same token I am also regretting not buying more after all the research time/energy/effort put into holding physical metal.
April 2018 Gold moved from $1360 down to $1160 August 2018. I started purchasing September/October 2018 price $1200 but Gold is no exception like everything else when prices tank people get fearful and start to sell and when prices rise people don't want to miss out and start buying. It is very hard to fight our baser human instinct regardless where investing our money.

I held similar beliefs until recently. Gold international commodity not dependent upon who is in government or the politics of a single country but the UK does represent the 5th largest economy in the world and plays a significant role in Gold in international trade so impact of Brexit cannot be mitigated. GBP and the strength or weakness will be positive or negative (short term) for those hold gold in the UK.
My analysis of the charts show that in this 7+ year bear market retracement gold should hit $1,000 and retest the break out that resulted in the bull market starting 2009. But if this level does not hold then next major level support (looking at monthly charts) $700 range.

My strategy continue purchase 10 oz Gold in the QB series for every release regardless of where the spot price is at the time. Gold hit $1,000 oz level then I will purchase physical Gold in  quantity that will double existing Gold stack. Gold reaches $700 level than I will triple physical position in Gold at which point I will have converted all my fiat into Gold. My strategy buy on the way down at key levels.
Will price of Gold ever get to $1,000 or $700 who knows. I don't want to scare anyone but I am mentally preparing myself and having a strategy in place to cope with $200 or $500 lower spot prices in Gold and trying to avoid the roller coaster of emotions I am sure that @Glorfindel experienced when he/she liquidated their position. I can see two circumstances where significantly lower Gold spot prices can happen. Collective efforts from central banks to continue fiat system and suppress price of Gold. Dollar Index continues to strengthen.
I don't know where the saying comes from but I hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
