If you are stacking for weight and don't care about quality, the bars and 1 oz coins often go for spot or less recently so it would be worthwhile to save up and get them as they are attractively priced here on the forum. The down side to this is when it comes to resale the potential pool of buyers will be smaller compared to a sov or a lower fractional weight.

Well I'd say a mortgage free home and a work pension would be minimum. A kilo of gold is say £60,000 which would give approximately £3,000 pa in a cash isa. As they say gold pays no interest. But it has advantages. You can hide it from governments, pass on quietly to family, spend it gradually as and when needed. Probably won't give you 100% security as there is always the worry it could be stolen. The problem is its incredibly addictive , and i think quite a few of us have bought more than what we should have and had to resell to pay for emergencies. In my case a new roof .

I've never gave a lot of thought to weight. Just numbers of sovereigns collected. So I'm also in the club 😆 but as I get older I will sell some as needed. Can't work forever and don't want to drop dead the richest man in the graveyard. It's sobering watching a beloved collection dwindling I guess. Eventually I suppose the best strategy is to have few examples of different coins , graded highly to enjoy in later life. With the world in turmoil it could be tempting to stack forever who knows. Gold sovereigns as a pension fund is probably not the greatest idea unless you're well stocked with other investments.

Well done @Skyfiller! You must be proud.
1KG of gold....a big extension on the house, a fancy car (if that's your thing), a child's University tuition, world travel....etc.
Or just drawdown, a sov a month to supplement your pension.
Whatever....a great position to be in 😊

Well Done ! 1kg is a nice milestone to achieve
Aside, myself as a bit of a Dull Mans Club OCD freak who likes logic, order, tidiness, familiarity, minimalism and clutter free life, i much approve your arrangement and storage method. Maximising safe deposit real estate space, is all the more pleasing so you don't over pay for a larger safe deposit locker you don't need

I know hindsight is 20/20 but if I had bought 1 Sovereign a month from when I started work in 1989 I would be retired now.
For any younger stackers out there, its still an achievable target even at today's prices.

Purchased a special sovereign off @James32 last week which means I owe a massive thanks to everyone on TSF as I've hit the 1kg of gold in full sovereigns 🙂 (That's 137 to save anyone counting 😂).
I started this journey just under 3 years ago after happening upon TSF after looking up what one was worth that was given to me by my grandparents when I was born. Gave myself the target of 1kg in 10 years (1 per month plus a few) and have smashed that. Honestly the best decision I've done and a great little nest egg for retirement. Here's to the next kg and once again, thank you all 😀🥰

The big advantage of the chinese ones is they're easier to transport 'cause they're much lighter than others.

Thanks, I don't think Sovhead knows me as well, otherwise he would have contacted me, my bad
I did not state on the sales post this was cleaned, so I am happy to take a hit and make it right. They were just bullion coins from a stack tube not from my collection and all I did was check the dates and post them up. I don't think it could have been polished or harshly cleaned or I would have weighed it in before now as I do with any I don't think are up to scratch, but happy to accept it may have been cleaned at some point as that would not generally be a red flag for me, though I would normally state it in the post as I have previously.

At that price not really. Each to their own. Coins polished to hell look dreadful but this is passable as a bullion coin.

I wouldn’t clean but if you have an air gun that might shift it if it is just a flake of something.
