  1. There used to be a law about unsolicited goods arriving by mail @MickB @SILVERFINGER Providing you didn't open the package and no attempt was made to claim it by the sender, it was yours after a certain amount of time. Not sure if you had to inform the sender as it was not ordered in the first place. Might be worth checking out.

Sometimes genuine mistakes do occur, other times, as you say, it may be a marketing ploy.

  2. @mr1030 Another email response received this morning GMT.

Hi,  thanks for your message back.  The Coins of the World series and all our statues are available to the global market.  I don't have any retail partners in the EU yet.  We do ship to the UK, but I know that comes with a high customs/ duty.  I recently shipped a statue to a customer and his duty was only 5% using the following code:

    925 Silver Statue

    HS Tariff No. 9705000020

VAT reduced rate 5% - Duty Exempt

For a $1200 statue, the VAT was 50. GBP

We are currently relocating to a larger facility in Singapore and have disabled retail sales on our website until we are fully up and running again.  I expect to be back online with new models by October 15th.

Might see if I can get one from the US after all!

  3. @mr1030 The company Heads and Tales are in the process of moving from Thailand to Singapore. Their new website will be up in October, so they tell me.

You are fortunate as it appears that the Britannia statue and the other monetary ones are only available in the USA. Would love to purchase some but with postage, customs duties, VAT (sales tax) on top of the price, it would certainly add up!

From what I can gather, they are doing a series of 'world coins', the American Eagle, the Libertard, the Britannia, Kookaburra, with others to come in the form of these statues. Also in the pipeline are the Queen's Beasts although I don't find them so appealing as the ones above.

I must say, email communication was by return so am looking forward to doing business with them in the future (I hope). I suggested they are missing out on business by only supplying said statues to the USA although some of their small animals ones are available elsewhere in the world.

If you would be so kind, please advise who you purchase from in the USA? My research led me to three sources but only one would ship overseas although the above added costs may make purchase excessively expensive.

  4. Technology is certainly a 2-edge sword. Great for so many things. But...... for all the good things there are corresponding bad ones. Re mobiles, I am personally sick to death of hearing other people's conversations - no respect for privacy... I don't want or need to hear about the ins and outs of peoples lives, what they did last night, how the house purchase/divorce/holiday plans are going etc. To my way of thinking, a conversation on a mobile is still a private communication between two people and not for the world to hear about. How often do you see people in the supermarket ringing wife/husband/partner..... do we need such and such. Surely they have some idea of what they are going to buy when they leave the house. As for people walking down the street glued to their mobiles... don't get me started!

Yes, they are wonderful in so many ways but by the looks of the general population who seem to be glued to mobiles, I despair. Totally absorbed without a clue of the real life around them. Fed a lot of ******** by large social media organisations. No wonder the country has gone downhill. Many cannot think for themselves and have to follow the crowd - rather pathetic in my opinion.

However, they do allow us to access some much information that we would previously not had access to. And communicate with people across the globe. I do wonder what will happen if all signals go out for some reason, satellites fail, sun spots. or some other reasons.  How will the mobile phone generation cope? They can't even read a map! Rant over.

  5. Following this thread with interest. I hope you all nail the guy. Glad Action Fraud were helpful. Maybe if enough people contact them re this individual they may share information with their German counterparts or at least alert them to his activities.

  6. To all concerned, I am so sorry and alarmed to hear of your woes with this individual. Thank you for sharing and warning us all. Customer Service is obviously not his forte.

May I suggest that Action Fraud be contacted as well, can be filed online  @Quicksilver. Hopefully in addition to whatever charges he eventually faces they add cyber bullying and other electronic abuses of the (EU) law.
