Hi folks, I am getting more interested in collecting years of sovereigns. I'm wondering if there is a table or spreadsheet available that lists from best, the sovereigns that are most desired or important? I know the super rare will be mega money, but it would be nice to see how far up the list I could find.
So far, found sovereigns from 1885, 1891, 1901, 1911 and 2002 shieldback.
It would be good to get a few more when funds and good coins allow.

You may live to regret asking your question!😄

What makes you think there is any gold in this piece, any hallmarks?
looking at the size and thickness of the "coins" I doubt they will be more than 9 ct if gold, probably less.

I got my 1oz coins at 20% below spot in 2022 because my mate worked at gold dealer. Been cashing out some profit and getting more gold with the original money.
Wish he still worked there.
mmm that sounds like a dodgy friend😎

Early shields sovereigns are often badly strucked. And the 3 lions on the reverse are usually the first to show that weakness. But it cant be confused with wear (and the lustre tells it); what you see (like for this 1841) is how the coin left the mint.
Just as NGC often under grade shields, PCGS often overgrade, I have seen it many many times.
The weak strike on the lions is real, I am not so convinced by the head, there looks like some mechanical damage to my eyes. Even if it is, the lustre and eye appeal on both sides is poor and negates the high grade imho

Probably true but it will go back down at some point soon. A bit of volatility is exciting for the guys here and this gives an opportunity for some profit taking if you have the nerve to do it🤔

Yea 1881S is the one I think is under graded, and the 1878S is the one I think is over graded
Its plastic strands from the capsule on the 1884S, typical NGC quality control
I would agree with all those gradings , which is a miracle for me and NGC, except the 1872 which I think is a tad overgraded at 64, better at 63

proof. They are sealed in plastic from day they were bought and are high grades
Thanks.
Interesting, never seen them presented like this before.

What are the sealed ones in and why? They are proof?

@Spyder @sovereignsteve went to see my coin dealer this morning and he sold the set. He didn’t tell me to who but he did say another dealer who paid €9000.00 for them. Seems high to me but who knows. Maybe he’s already got someone for them. Condition issues aside, it was nice having them. Even if it was for 24 hours 🤷♂️ @refero you’ll be like “phew that was a close one” lol 😂
I don't think that was a close one at all. €5k would a decent buy. I'm working on the saaumption that the photos made them look worse than the ywere, which is common with proof coins.
Dealers know their customers and they will have been working on the "other fool" tactic🤔
