@Petra as you can tell this is a trigger for me! Every generation works hard and had their own challenges to deal with.

It’s just well beyond what’s fair and reasonable for most.  Wages in real terms are plummeting, I bought my house on minimum wage and the ratio was 4.7x my income, if I did the same job today the ratio would be 9-10x to buy the same home there are loads of other factors to consider.

my dad was a factory worker in the 70’s but it was enough to buy a 3 bed terrace house raise 4 kids and have mum at home.  If I had the same job today I would barely be enough to rent a bed sit impossible to buy a home and raise 4 kids put a figure on this for me if you would not mind, how much would you need to earn today to buy a modest 3 bed terrace  and raise 4 kids on a single wage?

Incomes are nowhere keeping in line with a fair standard of living……….at this rate I’m going to start my own political party 😂

Just can't see this working.  Unless they are going to try and copy Pandora business mode, sell loads of cheap silver tat pretend it's exclusive and charge a fortune for something that will be lucky to get 10% back as scrap.

The RM have delved into the jewellery business before - usually with coin themed objects. I purchased the Queens Beasts (lion, dragon and unicorn) and Britannia cufflinks and tie-pins a couple of years ago - they were all for sale at 50% off. I can only assume that there was no demand. Not sure what's changed now.

Before I put my tinfoil hat on look at the industrial revolution 1760-1840 who was it really good for? I don't know if you know about the the group of people labeled the Luddites those skilled labourers especially girls/women who were earning twice the average wage spinning cotton from their cottages. (AKA the cottage industry)
Overnight they were put out of business and were forced to work in the hell hole factories for a fraction of their wages no doubt reducing their already short life expectancy.  The Luddites (which though time is a word to describe someone of low intelligence and doesn't like change)  resisted and  pushed back at the appalling working conditions, smashed up some mills (A local one to me it's still standing where they protested)
Ultimately they were crushed by the system even hanging  men and boys  to scare the workers into compliance.  The industrial revolution  was great for the 1% and most would say it was good for Britain I very much doubt you would say that if you was one of average working population at the time, I would suspect you would have a very different view.
We are on the verge a a revolutionary shift.
CBDC is just a part in the new system that some are calling the 4th industrial revolution.  Without sounding pessimistic I feel the ultimate goal of governments is to have a blockchain system of total social and economic dominance. Everything you do however benign or otherwise will be recoded in this controlling digital programmable system.
What can the government do?  Anything they want and once the population is hooked by this system (and they maybe benefits and conveniences especially at first adoption ) there will no work around it.
Geofencing they can digitally control your movements the second you are out of your allotted digital area you are cut off, hell they could make your electric stop and turn around.
Voting, vaccinations,  or political views  Don't vote or don't toe the political line.....You are cut off
Micro/individual  Currency manipulation They can put an expiry date on your currency for you to spend it before it depreciates to nothing due to programmable negative rates, or charge you more for buying items they deemed to be bad for you.  Endless control options they could enforce even how much PM's you can buy or at all.
Why have we got tech companies putting up ten's of thousands of low orbit satellites?  I'm sure as sugar it's not to give farmers in rural locations a good wifi signal, once they have world wide coverage you won't  be able to escape the system anywhere on the planet (I know this is sounding like a bad 1980's science fiction film)
Have a play with the interactive chart on the World Economic Forum website explaining how think-tanks  are going to introduce this new system.
Change is coming It's going to be great for the 1% and possibly the country.......For us the 99% on the other hand I really don't know.

That is the future and the metaverse will skyrocket these ‘services’:) you wouldn’t even need robots (there was a cool series of Black Mirror on that)
re SIPP vs stock ISA, not a financial advise  I have both and use SIPP to get 8% from my employer on my gross salary before tax (but will pay income tax normally when i withdraw and only after I reach 55, can’t use it before that). I also contribute 8% so 16% in total. My bet is when I’m old I will need less income than now (might be totally wrong though)
for my share ISA I put money myself (from my after tax income) but I will not pay tax on any capital gains or dividends. I can withdraw at any time but can not pay more than 20k per annum (hard to reach that)
hope that is helpful but ping me on PM if any questions

I just watch Grumpy Dave the Golden Turtle spend my funds on the Shiny Golden Coins, he always seems to choose well. Bought a 1925 Gold Sovereign twenty years ago, added a few Gold Coins to my collection in the following years. in 2017 Peter Rabbit Colour 50p coins were Released I was back Hook Line and Sinker, quickly got back into collecting Silver and I became a Flipper of Silver. My Profits purchased Gold ! Have not looked back since, I have realised you can sell Silver and Commemorative coins at 50% mark up, so I keep Buying and Flipping, all profit's  go to Purchasing Gold ! Started my You Tube Channel with my Sidekick Grumpy Dave The Golden Turtle, Will continue until I loose interest or the Grim Reaper comes a Knocking.

    Hi  there.
My name is Keith and I've just joined your forum. I heard about you while watching some of 'Backyard Bullion's videos on youtube.
A couple of months ago I bought my first silver Britannia off ebay and I've kind of got the bug. I'm currently upto 10 Britannia's dated  from 2014 to 2020, all ebay purchases and none over £28 inc postage, though it looks like that little run has come to an end lol. My current aim is to accumulate as much high purity metal as possible for the lowest price.
I was considering buying up some sterling and refining it upto 999 but it seems to be selling for nearly the same price, so not worth bothering.
Anyway thats pretty much what I'm about at the moment.
I look forward to reading about what you are all into.
    All the best Keith,

@MancunianStacker what’s more embarrassing is getting better service and quicker delivery from a mint on the opposite side of the planet.  Something at the Royal Mint has to change, it’s get the money first and everything else is secondary……….also been waiting over 5 weeks for a 5 k refund.

@HerefordBullyun CBDC's will be a horrid future.  I feel we are all being shoehorned in to a "Blockchain society system"  This will be a system of total accounting and total control, cash will be gone soon and I'm convinced they will introduce a UK CBDC in the form of UBI (Universal Basic Income) as most of the population would have been hammered into submission by crippling costs, it will be sold as a lifeline to help the population but once its adopted I can see it going down hill fast.
It's not a case of having a digital currency the pound is effectively  a digital currency now, the CBDC will be a programmable currency, think about that for a moment programmable, this would mean the government has total control over your currency.  What would this look like?  They could introduce negative interest rates the longer you hold it forcing you to spend it before it becomes devalued to nothing,  they can control your movements by geofencing the currency once you go outside your allotted area your currency will stop working,  they could even control peoples diets drinking and smoking by stopping your currency working once you have had your alcohol units or too much fast food, or simply turn you off if you don't toe the line if you have opposing political or social views.
There will be no way around this system even gold as this needs to be converted back into a digital medium for you to spend it like we do now.   Once cash is gone they will own us all, and it looks like all Western governments are devaluing our currencies to nothing faster every generation.  They will hammer us all to the point where we are begging for a new finical system.  Brexit, Covid, War, the next thing they dream up and the next its all part of the same agenda by the controlling 1%

Very happy to say I have received THREE perfect examples of James 1st
Actually really love this coin and this series is going to look SO GOOD when done.
I have Three coins, I only need one....
    So...
Some of you may recall an incredibly generous gift from @Rll1288 Who sold me his Henry at mint issue price when I had a bad one delivered from the mint.
So I am paying this generosity forward by giving @Rll1288 one of these at issue price and also to one other lucky forum member.
That other member has been selected already based on the level of annoyance I sensed when they shared their disappointment in this thread on release day.
