Whatever other rubbish/scams they may pull out Proof Sovs are sacrosanct. It will be a high mintage probably, but no way unlimited. (They're obviously going to double/treble up on plain edges, SotDs etc - but the Proof will remain 'intact'.) I would bet my house on it

It's pot luck to an extent. I believe some are minted here and some abroad (?) and there's no way to tell what you'll get. Some tubes are trash and some remain nice. A good bet are the specials like the Orientals, never had a problem with those. And yes it sucks

The monarch has the final say on coins, of course Charles wants as many people as possible to buy them (apart from a couple of not-very-notable exceptions, which are obviously a very lame sop to collectors/flippers). This is not about coins, it's about the monarchy (edit - upon which the RM depend on). If anyone seriously expected any different I have a lovely collection of royal mugs I can sell you (coronation, silver jubilee, Charles and Diana, Queen Mum, etc).

All very true! I think one or two sensationalist news articles too many got pretty much everyone keeping anything different, just in case they were 'the next Kew Gardens'. I think now is possibly/probably the best time to sell the ones with a premium. Except... I think the whole set is very nice and quite special, one to keep for me

The cointubers who regularly get sealed or even bank bags seem to find the common ones and even the rarer ones (far less so in bank bags), so maybe it's partly where I live, I'm not sure. But I often use cash and haven't had anything for months. It's definitely got worse around here since I started looking, which was probably around 2018. You did quite regularly get commons back then, but not the 10ps. I've only ever seen one Mary Rose and I had to get that from a family friend who also has a huge collection and keeps all the multiples!

Not really, I always check and even a 'common' coin is getting hard to find because people keep them all. 'Cointubers' like Christopher Collects are most at fault imo, he makes no apologies for having hundreds of most of them (except the obvious Kews etc, but he has a few of those). Being able to get sealed bags in bulk is a huge advantage most of us don't have. Even then the 10ps are as rare as hen's teeth. Tenbob is a notable exception that I've seen, she always puts 'common' ones back in, and all her Jeremy Fishers go to charity.

I bought all the (then) kiddies the Collector albums from the Royal Mint (and very nice they were too) hoping to get them into collecting coins. The 'only' problem is all the (very limited) coins seem to have gone through Post Offices where they were 'intercepted' by the staff... 4 or whatever years later and I think we've collectively found only one or maybe (max) two in our change

A stunning coin. However (and I could very well be wrong) I wouldn't myself at these prices...they have almost doubled in 3-4 years. It depends on your pockets, but for me that bird has flown now.

I didn't know you could do this on ebay without giving a good reason, do you still have to give one/make one up? When I used it very many years ago I would never cancel a winning bid, even if I made a heavy loss on something.

I think the mintage is unlimited, just as many as they can produce in the time-frame they've got to fulfill orders. I've ordered a couple and am not sure on this one. I might reduce it to one as a keepsake (or, more likely, send one back if the hype has gone - which I think it will have in three months when delivery is due - if they can produce enough). I'm thinking that collectors will already have this, and there's presently huge extra demand (and therefore huge extra supply in the future). I don't see these even holding value, unlike genuinely low mintage coins e.g. like some of the RAFs, and the sublime Jane Austen from a few years back. Also, when those born this century come of age, cash and coins may already be a thing of the past. Certainly by the next generation they will be gone, so is there even a future market at all, or are these just 'flavour of the month' for now? I think they probably are. Any thoughts @BackyardBullion and others?

I would say let it be someone else. Sometimes (?) morals and a good heart are the only thing that counts, imvho. 'Do you remember when Queen Elizabeth passed away, Daddy?' 'Oh but of course! As per the thread title folks! I'm looking for the best (safest/cheapest) way to send just one silver coin from the UK to the US. It's a £30 coin that is an surprise gift, so not the end of the world if it gets 'lost', but obviously successful delivery would be preferred! Customs? Many thanks in advance

No it's old - but yes the same thing. Pizzas and ice cream - always been a front for dealing in kids for these monsters (just check out Savile's mate Jaconelli as one example)
