Reminds me of the 303 I first used in the sixties. Fine rifle great for precision shooting.

Yeah the Lee Enfield No4 was the best bolt action battle rifle of the war I reckon, I have a 1943 dated British Maltby (near Sheffield) made one, will stick some pics in the relevant section when I get chance.

Well I got a surprise today from the wife, and I was really surprised, she knew I was after some silver Reichmarks from the Third Reich era and that I had been having 'fun' trying to get some on here, but usually leaves me to find this kind of stuff as I am very picky about condition and whether or not the item is genuine or not as I am when buying any militaria.
While she was away on business she visited the towns market in her lunch break and saw this among others for sale and decided to take a risk and buy it me, when she told me over the phone I was like 'oh god what has she bought and how much has she spent' , she only paid £6.50 for it so it wasn't any hardship if it was rough or fake, but I was pleasantly surprised when she finally arrived home, I am more than pleased with it, no idea what grade it would be, but to be honest I am not bothered as I just wanted a nice one.
Doing a little research from books and the net I came up with the following info about Third Reich era Reichsmarks coins (blame them if any info is wrong ),
In 1933 Hitler comes into power, the 2 & 5 Reichsmarks coins are the same until about 1934/35 when small swastikas appear under the wings of the Imperial eagle.
In 1936 the old Imperial eagle is replaced by the Third Reich eagle, Hindenburg's portrait remains on the back of the coins as before.
In 1939 production stops of Reichsmarks coins, as silver and metal is needed for the war effort and are replaced by paper notes
Hitlers portrait never appeared on any Third Reich era coins for some reason, it did on some postage stamps but never coins, I don't know why (if anyone does let me know)
The 2 Reichsmarks coins were made in .625 silver
The 5 Reichsmarks coins were made in .900 silver
As a consequence the larger and softer 5 Marks seem harder to find in better condition than the smaller 2 Marks coins.
During the Third Reich era there was 7 mints in Germany making these coins, each one had its own code letter which was on the left hand side reverse of the coin under the date of Hindenburg's reign, below is the codes and mints they were allocated.
A = Berlin
B = Wien (Vienna)
D = München (Munich)
E = Muldenhütten (Dresden)
F = Stuttgart
G = Karlsruhe
J = Hamburg
Around the rim of the 2 & 5 Reichmarks coins is the inscription 'Gemeinnutz geht vor Eigennutz' which roughly translates to 'The community comes before the individual'
The 2 Reichsmark coin is roughly the same size as a modern UK 10p coin, I have shown it next to a 1939 production Walther PPK for scale.

Are they rare? I'm not familiar with this type of bars, but they look interesting, in the future when finished getting the coins I'm after. It might be something I would be interested in.
