I have a strong interest in the DISH varieties of the Jubilee Head gold sovereigns, and began collecting them a year ago.  Many of them are extremely rare, which makes the hunt quite challenging.  Recently I was looking through auction archives to see if I could locate a "short tail" version of 1891 (Marsh-129, DISH-L14) when I accidentally discovered a "medium tail" variety for which no numbers have yet been assigned.  Reported to Steve Hill at SOVR and his very cordial reply indicated that he and David Iverson had considered this, but opted to just keep things simple and group "short" and "medium" together since they are not very much different visually.  However, this got me wondering if perhaps other very rare varieties might exist for other dates in the series, so a made a quick survey of postings for the years 1890, 1892, and 1893.  My quick, unscientific investigation seems to indicate that all 1890 coins are of the "short tail" variety (actually "medium" which counts as "not long"), so nothing exciting there. However I did locate new unreported "short tail" varieties for 1892, 1892-M, 1892-S, and 1893-M which are quite different from the normal "long tail" varieties.  Also reported these findings to Steve Hill, and he indicated that he would consider including them in any future revision of Marsh "The Gold Sovereign Series" which he edits.  For those interested in collecting the DISH series, I would like to show representative images here, so you can be on the lookout for these quite rare varieties for which no Marsh or DISH numbers exist yet.
The images below show a rather generic "long tail" horse for 1891, followed by my newly discovered "short" (or "medium") varieties for 1892, 1892-M, 1892-S, and 1893-M.

Received this Charles I (1625-49) Halfgroat, mm: Book.  Aberystwyth Mint 1638-1642. 1g, Spink 2902.
Last photo’s of the little coin, next to its larger counterpart, an Aberystwyth Groat, both coins in a lovely state of preservation 👍
An interesting article from ‘The Metal in Britain’s coins’:
‘The mint at Aberystwyth had its beginnings in July 1637 when Bushell had the idea of coining at the source rather than sending the mined silver for coining to London and petitioned that it would stimulate the Welsh mining industry with predictions of increased output if the adits to drain water from the mines reached their capacity, and which could lead to other mines in England being used for coining in a similar fashion. The Mint in London was against the idea, but King Charles asked for Bushell to visit and was persuaded by his charm to back him. The agreement to set up a mint in Aberystwyth Castle with the Crown taking a 10% share with overall supervision from the Warden of the Mint Sir William Parkhurst. Coins were struck at 0.925 fineness at £3/2/- a pound with Welsh plumes with Halfcrown, Shilling, Sixpence, Half-Groat and Penny. In February 1638 patterns were also approved to forward minting of Groats, Threepences and Halfpennies and all carry the open book mint mark.’

Latest additions, firstly to my Charles I collection, this time a Scottish Twenty Pence.  Third Coinage, 1637-42; Bust wholly within circle, R as last S.5590. Weight 0.93g.
I haven’t quite made my mind up on the Reference of the Charles II Twopence as yet- I think it’s Spink 3318.  nice little coin.

Arrived today thanks to @Darr3nG.  1/4oz and 1/2oz 1987 bullion Britannias. It marks a shift in my stacking/collecting strategy and abilities but I'm really happy with these 2. Just the 1987 full ounce now to make up the full set of the 1st year that gold Britannias were minted. I'm not scared to handle these outside of the caps either which is pretty nice to be able to do.

Henry VII (1485- 1509) Groat, Profile Issue, triple band to Crown, mm. Cross- Crosslet which dates the coin to 1504- 5. Spink 2258.  3.07 grams.
    Obverse Lettering: HENRIC' · VII' · DI' · GRA' · REX · AGL' · Z · F'
Translation: Henry the Seventh by the Grace of God King of England and France
Royal shield of arms over long cross fourchée
    Reverse Lettering: POSVI DEV . · A DIVTOR E' : MEV'
Translation: I have made God my Helper
I would say VF grade, it’s a nice weight and a full round flan although, some weakness to the King’s face, but corresponding weakness can be seen to the shield of the Reverse, indicative of a striking weakness rather than wear?
Bottom photo of the Henry Tudor Groat (Depicted recently in the first RM release of the British Monarchs series) alongside my other Tudor period coins.

Closest I have is an 1887 Melbourne second legend DISH.M8. Pearls are similar, dots in neck , tail and dragon all look similar too. Weight is 7.99g diameter varied from 22.119 to 22.037 (don't usually use the micrometer but my son has 'borrowed' my calipers!).

A beautiful Quintuple Memorial Sovereign.  Very pleased, I cannot spot any significant flaws.
I plan to take a few more photos, then off to grading - don't think I'm brave enough to remove it from the capsule.
