Does anyone think Shell & BP may be a good choice at the moment?
Honestly I’m not sure, though the dividend is decent - I had BP, then sold my position yesterday to take my profits.
I want to see how the energy sector plays out over the coming months..

ThankYou I had wondered & that’s a good way of going about it. I won’t be parting with anything soon and by the time I may sell something I’m pretty sure everyone on here will know my home address from all the buying I will have done! 🤣
No worries bud.
It won’t matter how much you buy, you will still be asked to send before payment on first few sales 👍🏽 -

I have the slabs or I would. Just release those 1/4s and worry about the rest later 😆
I’m in the same boat too, easy money if you release the 1/4s like James has mentioned - knowing James will take them all while I’m busy haha

From my past experience, the only way to help rather than loaning and requiring payment which could fall through… and maybe ruin the relationship.
The best ways to help with no expectation or harm on your relationship - would be to help with a detailed budget and/or just make a lump sum payment that you are gifting without any money repaid.
Thats my opinion on these kind a scenario’s.. best of luck whatever you decide sir 👍🏽

Lol it happened around covid, they reckon loads of people took up coin collecting during the lock downs.
Supply is low but demand went through the roof.
Hopefully it reverts back by the time I maybe purchase 😂

The 2020 edition of Spink will suffice in terms of information- the latest edition will provide a more up to date price guide- prices have jumped exponentially since 2020- and you can take with a pinch of salt price guides when it comes to the higher grade examples!
Auction sites such as Noonans, London Coins, Spink, Hosker Haynes, Baldwins etc. etc are also great resources as well as specialist online dealers.I don’t like when someone says the prices have jumped “exponentially” haha 🤦🏻♂️
thanks I will be sure to try do some reading.

Google fake ones and study how they look, but we all make mistakes and owning history isn't always foolproof. There are priceless peices in museums that some believe to be fake.
Yes I wouldn’t be surprised if their are many fakes like painting, artefacts & coins etc within museums 😂

As rich said above really, he clearly knows a lot more about English hammered coins than I do, I follow metal detector groups and have a general interest in our history and coinage. Ive bought old coins that have interested me as and when I've seen them but I'm certainly not an expert.
Lots of great groups on Facebook including buy/sell groups.
Try and stay away from ebay when buying ancients as they are a lot harder to tell real from fake.
Yes I will be no expert, though I have seen nice ancient coins before here.. I was only intrigued by the looks and potential history - but that would be my limitation, hence why I asked how to authenticate such a coin.
Though if I do buy, I’ll be sure to buy from you guys to ensure it’s real.

I would say spend time visiting well established coin fairs, handle the coins, and ask the dealers questions- importantly, find an era/ period/ monarch you’re interested in and do some research. Also join some Facebook groups where you’ll pick up some good information.
There’s some fabulous books available that’ll give you lots of reading/ overview, I would recommend this Spink book- it won’t break the bank either, there is also a Decimal volume.
Spink, Coins of England Pre- Decimal Issues, is in my opinion, a must have- this will provide you a good overview of each period from Celtic Coinage up until Elizabeth II Pre- Decimal. The 2024 Edition will be released soon.
Once you find a period you’re interested in- then get geeky!
Thanks for the informative information and the books options - as I will read up and try get familiar and then might go for the 4th Ed Spink 2020 to start with 👍🏽 Thanks buddy!!
