Interesting to have these strategies/preferences if you can afford them, and you obviously can, but I suspect most TSF members are less ambitious.

I’ve often referred to ‘plastic coffins’ myself, only because I don’t do grading and prefer to keep proofs in their original capsules.
My ‘core’ bullion is split between sovereigns and 1oz gold, but 1/4 size proofs I find more enjoyable to collect now. Over the years I’ve collected almost everything, like betting on every runner in a horse race perhaps, but not for money!

As I’m already retired, my gold doesn’t figure in funding my lifestyle, just possessing it is my real attachment. I guess we are all different…..👍

I've got plenty in my core bullion stack, I've no real emotional attachment to
I now like larger/ heavy piece 5sov or 2oz gold in PF70 plastic coffins as a treat a few times a year. Quite happy to keep doing this now ongoing, buying quality over quantity
it will hopefully pay off well in retirement out pacing melt/spot appreciation

I’ve always maintained that coin grading is a business based off of a non-existent problem that was fabricated to create a solution.
A coin AUTHENTICATION service makes sense.
Grading is not a science or fact - it will always be a grey area, and as we’ve seen, companies that have a duopoly can come up with anything they want.
Brilliant Proof, Gem Proof, Gem Uncirculated, Brilliant Uncirculated, star, cameo, ultra cameo.
Not to mention designations like First Releases (as if that makes any difference to a coin’s quality!)
    Or special labels.
    Novelties.
You can see how it’s a business model that’s gone well beyond its purpose and nicely suckered people in. 🙂

With the caveat that these are my own rambling.
With gold at all time highs It seams quite expensive especially if you have a few years under the belt at buying gold & silver. When the price jumps as fast as it has, to keep folk buying what tends to happen is the premium lags the increase. This results in buyers trying to get things as close to spot or even under stop if they possibly can. As the market steadies the premium increases back to normal % above spot.
I suppose the buyers with funds don't want to part with their funds for fear that the spot price will crash, Hence " it's hard to sell gold at the moment and there's bargains to be had, therefore it must be a great time to buy but prices are high," and the sellers, whilst they may get more this week than last week had they chose to sell, they feel that they could have got more as last week their sovereign was spot plus 3%, this week, it's spot.
In very volatile price periods, It pay's if you don't need to sell. Buyers try to factor in the risk of a price drop.
On the case of storage, A few ounces I would say is fine at home. £150k worth saver in a vault. First line of security though. When your in Precious metals club. You don't talk about Precious metals club. Tell no one.
Your in the right place though for some insight. The forum has done wonders for me. Made a few friend's, I think. Gleaned a good bit of info. get to chat with like minded folk. and managed to get some great deals. A paid membership is advisable as you will get to see the sales posts as they go live. Any deal worth having gets snapped up pretty quick. Also, From a personal stance my paid membership for the first month saved me my years membership in the deals I made.
    Hope this helps.

    BTC is a risk-ON asset
    Gold is a risk-OFF asset
I'll take the blood pressure meds after this comment but BTC is not digital gold or anything close to it
The crypto action over the weekend is concerning though from a gold POV as there has been a correlation between cryptos and metals of late. Metals haven't fallen as far or as fast as crypto (metals still up on the week as others have pointed out)
What does Monday have in store for metals? Will metals follow crypto, exhibit risk-ON characteristics and have a big dip to mirror crypto, or will gold decouple from USD, interest rates and crypto?
This is a litmus test for gold IMHO and will tell us whether the majority of the recent rally has been speculative paper action or long-term physical stacking. If gold drops significantly on Monday with all that's going on then the recent price action has been mostly a paper scam (gold acting like a risk-ON asset). If gold goes up on Monday/next week then physical gold is still the one true measuring stick of ultimate security and store of wealth, a risk-OFF asset, like it should be
