  1. So I guess you are talking about the coronation sotd sovereign since this is the only 2023 sovereign we know the design of. There will be a much lower mintage of these than there were with the memorial sovereign. I personally think the coronation sovereign is the way to go, but there will be a large queue. I don’t think that it’s possible to get the coronation sotd after the coronation for a good price.
Both coins will be highly sought after in the future because these are the first coins of Charles. If you miss the sotd or if you don’t like the design you can still go for the memorial sovereign. You can buy them for a price  relatively close to release price and they are still a bit “under the radar“ …

    sorry for my bad English

  2. Looks OK to me. If you like the coin and you don't want it to use it as normal bullion you should grade it. There are some points you should check:

    Is there enough hair detail?
    does the shield look good?

are there scratches or is the rim filed?

Maybe it would get an AU grade

  3. If you want to collect Sovereigns the Marsh and the Spink book are a good way to start. There every sovereign is mentioned. Collecting sovereigns is not only based on dates but also on mintmarks. In books there are also varieties  mentioned. You can start collecting bullion sovereigns and buy them at best value or you can go for the more expensive proof (and struck on the day coins). 2022 is a great year to start a collection in my opinion because this year sovereigns feature a special design. I personally try to buy older uncirculated sovereigns or new ones with special reverse like (2002,2005,2012,2017,2022) and modern proof sovereigns and let a few of them grade. It is completely impossible to collect every single sovereign because there are so many different dates, mint marks and varieties and some pattern coins that are probably unice. As others mentioned before small date runs like Gillicks are relatively easy to do and can be fun.

  4. Hello,

I don’t know if anyone has asked this before, but do you think it makes more sense to grade Sovereigns than to leave them in there original packaging? I usually get all mintstate Sovereigns graded but I’m not sure if I should grade the SOTDs and the proofs as well. What do you think?
