So, you gonna eat your silver when the food riots start then..?  (I have silver too btw..😂)  Does it grind up into nice flour to put in the bread machine or make coffee with..?
In prepper land there is a saying which goes along the lines of  "better to have it and never need it than to need it and not have it"

Posthumous issues of Philip II coins were issued under Alexander III The Great, so it is possible and indeed likely that this was one of the posthumous ones. It may be possible to tell, although, to my mind, it is not very important which, merely interesting.
My weakest academic subject was history, which is somewhat ironic as I find myself working with history on a daily basis. My next worse subject was geography!
The obverse image is Apollo, but it is known or believed that some of Alexander's features were included. This must of course only have been on later coins.
Some sources suggest that the charioteer is the emperor.
Most of this topic / thread reminds me and reinforces my view that numismatics, at any level, can be highly educational.

@LawrenceChard  Spectacular coin minted in a period of political weakness.
If I am not mistaken, this coin was minted a few years after the death of Alexander the Great. A period of instability followed as his death as his (yet unborn) son was clearly unable to take the throne.  Those generals that helped Alexander build a vast empire (by the age of 30(ish) used their regional strongholds across the empire as bases from which to try and control the balance of the empire. I think wars between the parts of the empire lasted something like 20 or 30 years after his death.
It may be the case that the effort put into this coin (not sure if the image is of Apollo someone else or actually Alexander?) was partially to signal unity within the Macedonian empire? It would not be the first time a coin had been used as a tool for propaganda!
Please anyone with a better understanding of Greek / Macedonian history correct me if I am wrong.

Beneath the chariot and horse is the legend ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ (“Philippou”) in Greek letters. Immediately under the feet of the horses is a ritual tripod, in which offerings to the gods were often deposited and burnt. The tripod serves as a mint mark of sorts, identifiable with issues from Amphipolis, a city in Macedon, and Kolophon, a city in Ionia (now Western Turkey). This piece is most likely from Kolophon, as the Amphipolitan type features a thinner depiction of Apollo, an exergue line on the reverse and shows only one wheel on the biga.

Amazing.  Must be dated circa 330-320 bc or thereabouts...
Edit : I just checked and his reign was between 359-336 BC..

Fabulous Coin - Ancient Greek Gold Stater Philip II of Macedon
I was shown this coin recently, and we got photos of it.
I got more excited seeing this fairly small coin than I get when I see most one kilo gold coins. It is sensational!

Having just uploaded the obverse photo, I have started seeing features which I did not notice when looking at the actual coin.

Charioteer driving a biga (two horse chariot), with ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ below.
The device under the horses' front feet is a kantharos or cantharus. (Correction: It is a tripod, although it could be a three-legged kantharos).
I will need to do some homework to completely identify this coin, including the mint.
Almost as an afterthought, I Niton tested it:

    42.504 cts = 8.5008 grams.
My "GP suspect" note is because the tester showed this. I don't believe it!

I personally have nothing against Atkinsons, although as I said above I have not yet used them as a supplier, but have used Chards on several occasions.
In further support of Chards I would add that it's not every dealer who goes around giving away very expensive free goodies to it's customers in the form of proof (x2) and bullion sovereigns (x1) as Chards did last year with their Christmas Mystery Box promotion, and I doubt that there are many other dealers out there who could beat them on that.

Grid seems to show more definition and to my eye seems more appealing than softbox but I could understand some thinking it might look a bit artificially highlighted or enhanced.

Yes I didn't think a smartphone would be able to produce images like that, but it never harms to ask and be sure.
So I guess a Canon 5D should be on my Amazon wishlist.

It's slightly disappointing to hear your slightly negative thoughts about me / us.
Sure we do except as a business to make money (not literally), and be able to generate and retain sufficient profit to grow and ensure we are financially stable. This has the benefit for past present and future customers to know that we are not going to disappear overnight.
I have mentioned it before, but sometimes the very cheapest suppliers are not financially stable, and could go bust or do a runner owing money. The prime example I quote is Harvey Michael Ross of Leeds, who for years was the most competitively priced UK bullion dealer, and also the darling of the financial press whenever they commented about sourcing gold sovereigns or Krugerrands.
    This thread contains some information:
Basically Harvey Ross was running a Ponzi type scheme, and ended up disappearing to Brazil, owning £ millions to investors and customers.
If I were purely motivated by money, I could have made about 10x more than I have in about 1/10th of the time, without doing anything illegal, just by being less transparent, ethical, and scrupulously accurate with descriptions.
